SOP Nazis.

Thats my term for folks who think SOPs are the ultimate key to safe operations.

No amount of regulation or standardization will ever replace sound judgement.

SOPs main function is to allow a crew who have never met each other to work together productively right from the get-go.

They are not all-inclusive instructions as to how to operate an aircraft. Following SOP religiously does not equate to a safe operation.

Just my 2 cents as a "type B" pilot. This is usually the diametrically opposite view of that held by check airmen.
