I have a question for all you unemployed pilots bouncing checks and going bankrupt.

I want to get a complete credit report on myself. I do not want to sign up for some monthly service or receive a ton of spam and junk mail, I just want my current credit report.

What’s the best place to go?

I hope it's okay for me to answer this even though I'm not one of the unemployed pilots bouncing checks and going bankrupt :)

There are some states with laws that permit you to receive a free or low-cost credit report once a year. Here's information on this from EquiFax:

http://www.equifax.com/universal/fcra.shtml

If you don't fit into one of these, you can buy one from one of the three majors. For example,

https://www.econsumer.equifax.com/w...nsumerProducts?^start=&orderSource=EH3&PP=P6#

(you may have to fix the link)

Go to www.freecreditreport.com

I just got one about a week ago. You technically agree to a service that provides you with reports for a yearly fee but all you have to do is cancel during the 1st month of the free trial period. As long as you cancel within those first 30 days they will never charge you the fee. I got a very comprehensive report and didn't pay a cent.

I did this same thing but paid for a full year. Around $70.00 for a report from all 3 agencies. Worth it to me.

I think you can get them from your bank too.

It's a good idea to get all three, for sometimes the information is different, dependent on the company that reported to them. Most creditors report to all three but some don't. It usally costs $8.00 for each company.

Another little thing to note: If you want a way to fix some negative reports on your credit report, dispute each one in writing. It's a bit shady but what happens is this:
The credit reporting agency will write to the creditor that reported you asking for proof that the report is valid. If they don't respond in 30 days with that proof, the negative report comes off your record. Now the reason why - most companies are understaffed, especially right now and this is something of a low-priority for the companies so they often don't get around to providing the evidence within the 30 day time limit.

a few of those companies will give you a report for free if you are unemployed. also, thats the way to go,, carefully dispute each negative item every 6 months or so and eventually it will come off and can NEVER be put back on! just say it wasnt your debt over and over until eventually it gewts taken off.

Not a "certified" report, but it is completely free: www.worthknowing.com . You can update it for free every 90 days, or pay $5.00 for an update.

If you know a mortgage broker - ask them to run a 3-bureau check on you - mine cost me $30.00 in December.

Check your state's laws, as posted earlier, you may be able to get one free from each of the big report companies every year.
