For those of you who have been around longer...

Is it just me or do we seem to have more airline crashes now than in the past?

It's the MEDIA frenzy that's more than in the past....

2002 was the safest year for US commercial aviation, ever. I just read that, probably in Aviation Week.

regards,
enigma

Just to let you guys know there are ailiners in other countries. Like the two Russian(I think they were russian) jets that collided or how about the RJ that killed 70 people in Turkey. I mean sure flying is safe and all but we still have crashes.:(

Uhh, what is your point? Accident's happen.

Many more accidents, incidents, crashes, mishaps, etc, etc, etc, occur 91/135, 121 flying is extremely standardized and extremely safe as well.. Media can distort many facts.

Not to be $hitty, but....................2002 was the probably the safest year because of smaller amount of commercial traffic than in the past. Yes/no?

Compared to 2001, 2002 was a banner year, safety wise.

No, actually I ment commercial volume. I was A$$-UMING(we all know what that means) that traffic was down post 9/11. I don't have any evidence though...................

I saw Hinson speak back when he was head of the FAA around '98 - he said that if we merely maintain the accident rate we have, by the year 2030 we'll have a major accident every month!

The last 3 to 4 weeks had a lot of them: Colgan B1900, Ameristar lear in DRT, Hawker 700 in Beaumont, runway incursion accident in Las Vegas between Piper Meridian and Seneca? tuesday or wednesday and was there not another lear that crashed somewhere?

Citationkid: that was a russian tupolev with 80 kids flying into a DHL B757 over the german / swiss border

Who fkucin cares siht happens get over it!!!!!!!!!! I am sick and fkucin tired of thr word SAFETY..............
