Air show resumes after stunt pilot dies at Miramar

MIRAMAR – Planes will return to the sky after a stunt pilot who crashed during aerobatic maneuvers on Friday morning at Miramar Air Show was killed.

The pilot, identified as Sean deRosier, 31, of Nut Tree, Calif., was taken off the tarmac via a Yuma Search and Rescue helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The crash of the Cabo Wabo Skyrocker, reported at 10:15 a.m., occurred between runways where the planes take off and land for the air show. The plane was coming out of a loop when it crashed, according to reports.

The plane involved was built from a $300 set of plans, with a Lycoming-custom built 210-horsepower engine. It was built by deRosier and his father. Weighing 900 pounds, it is capable of speeds of up to 184 mph and spews smoke from a pair of mini-jet engines custom built into the plane's wing tips.

The pilot was in the middle of an acrobatics show that features a multitude of loops and other manuevers when the incident occurred.

I saw his act a couple of times, and it was great. He will be remembered. Weird that I just found a photo that he personally signed for me about a year ago, just last week.

Spooky

Remind me not to give you any signed photo's the next time I'm in town. Oh Ya! I'm not famous and I dont have any photo's. Whew! I feel better.
God bless him and his family.

Whoo boy! I hear what you are saying Tim!

Although I don't mean to cast any kind of a shadow of buffoonery on this man's death, I have said many times, "You can't get an airport or a bridge named after you, if you live forever!"

I have brushed elboes with those that would be murdered and those that would die in accidents...in fact I keep a suit in my closet as a memory to one such soul. He helped me pick it out.

I would never worry about a superstition such as signing a photo. That would be as silly as asking the wife not to call from work before she leaves, just so you don't have the recording on the answering machine left over after she gets plowed by a semi that crossed the centerline as a guard against it being your last memory of her.

I know you were only kidding! But you can't pre-suppose anything in this life. :)

I know the answering machine thing sounds funny, but what I'm trying to say is...sign everything! Kick a dent in this planet and let us know you were here! :)
