anyone know what happen at fullerton today FUL? A plane crashed I just saw the last of it on the news, I know they had airport days there today.

Apparently, it was a Ford Tri-Motor replica that burned in. Thankfully, no one was killed.

A replica of an antique plane crashed seconds after takeoff Saturday, just missing an airport control tower and slamming into a parked car that had two women inside.

No one was killed, but a man in the plane suffered severe burns.

The 1986 Bushmaster broke apart on impact and erupted in flames, said Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jerry Johnston.

One man suffered third-degree burns to his legs and hands, and the other person in the plane suffered bruises, Fullerton police Sgt. Steve Matson said. The women in the car suffered minor injuries caused when their air bags inflated, Matson said.

The four were taken to local hospitals. Their names and conditions were not immediately available.

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/n8389p/detail?.dir=/4217&.dnm=9977.jpg there is a pic of the plane that crashed. I have some friends down there that know the pilot of the plane. From what I hear they are in bad shape. The guy in the right seat was ejected from the plane. I seen the video of the crash and, it ran off the runway and went toward the crowd of people and the pilot pulled up. It got off the ground and stalled (from what it looks like in the vid).

Is this the bushmaster that was for sale??
They were asking 1.5MM for that one.

Well just got some sad news :( I knew the guy that was sitting in the right seat at the time the plane crashed. It sounds like he is going to make it but never walk again. He is at the UCLA burn center. He broke his back and almost burned his right hand off. I dont know about the pilot yet.

I just watched the video. Did it seem to anyone else that the rudder was hard left when they were in the steep left wing down descent? I wonder if they had a control problem?

Our prayers are with em.

That actually crossed my mind, if I recall correctly the original tin goose had the rudder cables outside the airframe, don't know if this version had em on the outside as well and if that would be a factor.

From what I heard they left the rudder gust lock in place. It sounds like it was a strap like what you use in the back of a pickup truck. This could have also effected elevator control. Thus the short flight.

I guess there is only one left of this type of model still flying.
