Cramer's 'Mad Money Lightning Round': Highflying Continental

Here's what Jim Cramer had to say about some of the stocks that callers offered up during the "Mad Money Lightning Round" Tuesday evening:
XM Satellite Radio (XMSR - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating): "I think the quarter's gonna be bad. ... I have been begging these two (XM and Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating)) to combine. ... DiveDiveDive. Run deep, but not silently."
Radvision (RVSN - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating): "I like it. I think they're gonna have a good quarter ... more like Lockheed Martin (LMT - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) than Northrop Grumman (NOC - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating)."
"Apple (AAPL - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) is headed to par [$100 a share in Wall Street gibberish] . ... I think Dow (DOW - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) is not gonna have that great a quarter," Cramer explained when a caller swapped the two stocks. ... "Wait for the quarter and then sell the Dow. If Apple comes down, that would be a gift."
Warner Chilcott (WCRX - commentary - Cramer's Take): "Not as bad as Von-ahj (VG - commentary - Cramer's Take), but still bad. ... I invite the management to come on this show [to explain its decision to waive an exclusivity agreement for its oral contraceptive Ovcon 35] . ... Until they come on, I cannot recommend that stock." That waiver allowed Barr Laboratories (BRL - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating) to market a generic version of Ovcon. Arena Pharmaceuticals (ARNA - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating): "Going higher when they report. ... They have an anti-obesity drug ... and a drug for diabetes."

Continental Airlines (CAL - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating): "We recommended this stock at 27. ... Here it is at 36. ... great quarter ... the best-managed airline in America."
Todco (THE - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating): "I think you gotta stick with a major here, my friend, [which Todco is not] ."

1-800-Flowers.com (FLWS - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating): "I think [at] 5 bucks, [it's a] pretty decent spec."
Southwestern Energy (SWN - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating): "Used to be my favorite nat gas play ... too expensive. ... I was too negative on it. ... Ring the register."
DivX (DIVX - commentary - Cramer's Take): "How could you not take a quarter [of the position] off that right now right here?" Ensco International (ESV - commentary - Cramer's Take - Rating): "I think you oughta ring the register. ... I think this group [oil equipment and services] is gonna enjoy a three-, four-day rally and then it's back to purgatory."

I read that, historically, Cramer is wrong over 50% of the time. You could have flipped a coin and had better odds.

Maybe he's right, Continental must the best-managed airline in America. Afterall, getting pilots to fly for $30/flight hour as a 1st year FO is just plain geneious.

comparable to your spelling abilities?

$30/hr first year does suck. i'm living it. but i'm also here to change it in the future. a ton of newhires are experiencing this contract's first year pay. it leaves an impact - one that i hope we will improve on in the future.

that being said...i prepared for the first year and am getting by just fine. i've never been a big spender and i have cash reserves from previous job.

things are changing around here. we're hiring and expanding at a decent clip. new blood to replace the old. i'm confident in the future of CAL, but cautious in my personal spending habits.

meanwhile...i'm stalking my Captain slot available in a couple of years.

Before 9/11 I believe the NWA newhires made about the same 30-35 bucks an hour in their first probationary year...

Bad idea. The competition between these two is what's making sat radio work. If you merge them can you imagine the price in a few years?

Bad idea from a customer's perspective. Great idea from a stock holder's perspective (short term at least).

Ya, I'm looking at it from the consumers view. Same thing was attempted a few years ago when Dish network and Direct TV tried to merge. Glad that didn't happen.

Cramer is the fade of the century. He is the same guy who was pumping Jet Blue so hard. I'm sure he is selling all of his Continental stock into the nice little rally he has created. It should be criminal.

You see this ragging lunatic while flipping through the channels and I always wondered what his actual stats are. I think I'm going with Leonard the Wonder monkey from now on! ooo eee. Thanks jonjuan

Buyer beware! You wouldn't want to be simian who loses money in the market.

I started at Air Callifornia in 79 at 700 a month, 10 per hr. Recently retired from AA at 200 per hr. with a nice retirement. Hang in there. It is worth it.

I don't watch the guy other than quick channel surfing visits.

One day, I loved the guy. One of the better recent TV experiences I've had.

Myself, and one other distant leather seat occupier were killing time in our new, rather empty, pilot ops watching CNBC on the nice big screen 5 minutes before Cramer...

...in waddle 5 of our finest FA's, whose combined customer service experience would go back to President Jacksons term, who then plop down in front row seats, grab the remote and switch it to some inane Lifetime movie. Included was a comment how our lounge was much nicer than theirs, way too nice for us pilots as a matter of fact:rolleyes:

....".Uhhhh, Ma'm, we were watching CNBC"............

Shortly after switching back to CNBC, Cramer comes on. The reaction was priceless. It was Vampires in a church, cats in a dog pound and fingernails screeching across a chalkboard all rolled into one. One more FA walks in, same reaction, "whose watching thhhhiiiiiiiisssss?"

I don't have a clue what Cramer said, but that guy had style that day

His lightning round stuff isn't so reliable...when he features the stocks it usually goes better.

will do. it's a nice way to earn a living and the pay will arrive soon enough.

enjoy your days away from airport 'security' and 4 hr taxis to the runway. congrats, sir.

And, had to pay for their own hotel during training.

And, had to endure more than a year from date of hire on probation. Don't understand? Let me explain: Probation at NWA is 1 year from the date that the first guy in your classs completes OE and is released to the line. He sets the clock for the entire class. Time in ground school/sim training does not count. This equates to being about 14 months. A nice little cash grabber for the company.

And, got cheated out of their furlough pay on the way out the door......

He recomended CAL at $27?? Way to minimize one's gains. I bought at $9. Nice to beat the expert once in a while. Of course that makes up for when I bought United at $16. Oops.

I think I'd rather go with Kosmo Kramer's recommendations. After all, he started Kramerica Enterprises. Plus he probably get insider tips from Bob Sachamacho or whatever his name is.

Maybe its wrong. But the warning signs for JetBlue stock were there before the big collapse. Back in late '03 or early '04 it was widely announced George Soros was going to start selling his stake. He provided a lot of seed money. That was the signal to sell. Unfortunately, that is the hardest part. JetBlue kept rising and everyone was giddy. Many blew off that sell signal and made up a knew one. Even when your stocks keep rising after you sell them, you have to have a firm commitment to the sell signal you established early on. It keeps you from falling in love with the stock.

Day trading is hard. Much harder than being a pilot.

you have got to listen to what cramer sez - he keeps saying - dont buy a stock just because i say so - do your homework. he admits when he screws up - unlike the other experts who do a lot of double talk.
