Is the CRJ-700 APU based on a PT-6? It sure sounds like one starting up.

The ERJ APU is based on a Mazda turbocharger, so I would expect Bombardier to do better.

That's actually the CRJ 200, I'm not positive if its the same...

The CRJ-700's APU is a Honeywell RE220. It's better than the ERJ's APU in that it provides bleed air and electrical power for the airplane. (The ERJ's provides ballast preventing a nose-heavy condition, and is equipped with a white sticker on the instrument panel, breaking up the panel's clean look).

Mazda? I thought it was McCulloch! :D

Gawd, I hope it ain't based on a PT6. After all, just one PT6 can't warm up a 19 seater on its own, much less a 70,000lb beast.
