Was looking at going to Cozumel with my wife for a few days next week, and noticed that the flight loads were pretty light, and the hotels had more availability than I would have expected.

Does anyone know something that I don't? Was the island hit badly by the hurricanes last summer?

We took a trip to Cayman a couple of years ago, and got some great deals ahead of time. But, when I got there, discovered that the beaches were virtually washed away by a recent hurricane.

Doing my research ahead of time this time to avoid the same mistake.

No, they weren't hit bad by any hurricanes. Right now is the high season there, but within the next month or so they enter their slow season. Don't know if you've been there before, but the diving is great, the water is beautiful, however, there are no real beaches on Cozumel. If you want great white sand beaches, take the ferry over to the mainland and hang out in Playa Del Carmen and the areas south of there. Akumal has great snorkeling and diving, and sea turtles start nesting there this time of year.
