Which countries/ airlines routinely hire expat pilots? What is the best source for getting to know about these jobs?

Is it the magazines/publications or is networking key in this aspect of the job search as well?

Hi!

In my opinion, Emirates is the best.

Cathay Pacific hires expats.

JAL, does, or they have some co. hiring contract pilots to fly for them.

You can search on flightinfo.com for some threads.

Here is a great source. It is like flightinfo, but international, not just US:

They have a main forum, and geographical forums further down the page.

Emirates Airlines - Dubai, UAE

Gulf Air - Abu Dhabi, UAE and Bahrain

Qatar Airways - Doha, Qatar

Air Arabia - Sharjah, UAE ( Start-up )

Etihad - Abu Dhabi, UAE ( Start-up )

Cathay Pacific - Hong Kong

China Airlines - Taipei, Taiwan


There are many others that have expats but may not be hiring or don't really advertise that much. Included would be:

Singapore Airlines
Dragonair
Korean
Asiana
Eva Airways
Saudi Arabian


The key aspect in most expat jobs is being a current and qualified captain on the type that you are seeking employment on. Only a very few airlines hire non-type rated pilots or will upgrade F.O.s those include Emirates, Cathay, and Dragonair. Eva and China Airlines have dubious provisions to upgrade cruisers and F.O.s.
