The sad truth is UAL wants to merge because UAL needs to merge. They did not get the job done in BK.
That's exactly right. They've been consistently unprofitable since emerging from bankruptcy protection during a period when UAir has made half a Billion a year.

UAL has some serious problems that a merger with a smaller carrier such as AAI, or JBLU won't fix, they'll just drag us into a messy situation.

I agree with Ty, the last thing we need here is a buyout by UAL. :rolleyes:

I do agree with another poster that UAir would be perfect. Good-size southern hub (CLT), good Northeast presence, fleet commonality, and the DESIRE to actually merge with someone...
 
Just when I thought we couldn't find anyone worse the Chug-a Lug Doug and his trusty side kick Scooter. UGH!!!

I guess Southwest is looking for a merger partner as well. The key is pricing power and the only way to control it is to buy up the competition. The next 12 months could be very interesting.
