It all depends my friend. Usually quality of life in a corporate fix is alot better, so is pay. Trans States seems like an ok company, but I tell you what the airline industry is such a flip flop. I turned down a Lear Fo job months ago, 42k a year with some benefits. Turned it down like an idiot and went to Pinchnickle for no paid training, sorry benefits and very very very low pay. During OE I realized that I had made a big mistake, commuting just wasnt for me nor was the quality of life. Also, usually corporate companies will type you, build some lear time and then find your self a Lear PIC job. Upgrades at trans states can come to a stop at any second. Just ask your-self this. What quality of life do I want? Would I rather be stuck as a SIC at a regional (low pay) or an Lear (better pay) if the industry hits another bump. Lets face it the airline industry is so unstable, especially for companies like trans states...AA connection/US air Connection, two airlines in big trouble. Short answer, I would take the lear job...I got out of pinnacle and I am now interview for better paying corporate jobs.
Good luck my friend.

Some other things to consider:

Does the lear job require you to be on call 24/7.
Will you commute w/ Trans States? How long on reserve?
Is the lear job a 91 or 135 operation?
Mostly scheduled trips or alot of pop ups?
Quality of life is different for everyone - Nice hotel and good meals on the road are great but they usually occur because they are trying to make you forget you are never home!
The money on the lear job will be better initially but you have to consider that the company is paying for your availability.

Good luck

I had a job as a Lear FO for a small charter company as my first flying job other than instructing. I was on call 24/7. Your day off was always yesterday. I could hardly be more than an hour away from the airport and could never go anywhere unless the plane was broken or in mtc. The pay was pretty decent. Now I fly for ASA. The frist year pay sucks, and I'm gone from home about 20 days of the month. But, it will only get better from here. I'll be making more when I get my payraise here soon than I did at my charter job, plus all the benies I get here that i didn't get at the charter company. The big thing for me was getting time off. That just got to me after a while at the 135 op. Like Flybet3 said, it really is all about the QOL. If the flight dept. seems to be a good bunch of people and the other pilot(s) are happy there. I would take the lear job (especially if you get scheduled time off). If you don't and you wan to have a life outside of flying take the 121 job.

Hope this helps.

(the lear is a LOT more fun to fly than the rj ;) )

I think we all need more information on this LR gig you have been offered before any good advice is given. Who is it for, what are the pay and benees, what is your schedule and call out like, etc........? In, my personal opinion the 121 world has a lot more benefits; at the same time a lot more ups and downs too. If your relatively young and single getting on at a regional is probably a good choice now if airline flying is your desire in the future.

To be honest with you, I have given my opinion of leaving now and getting on with X JET, CHQ, COM AIR and SKYW to many of the relatively low seniority FOs that I fly with. A lot of people would probably say I'm wrong, but TSA has gone thru are little growth spurt and the future is not really that bright. This whole GO JETS thing is not going to be good for the TSA pilot group no matter how you look at it.......PERIOD! If I was low on the totum pole hear I would not want to be here when this all comes to a head. We have a great pilot group, and a majority of us are on the same page, as far as what we will do to stop this from happening!

That being said, there is still little or no growth prospect for TSA remaining in this industry with our props and 50 seat jets. Our mngt. is lazy and don't seem to go after all oppurtunities available. Plus you can imagine they are to busy with their GJ project to extend any money or effort for new and more oppurtunities for TSA. We may not be the best contract and pay, but we have been told we were under bid on a few jet and TP contracts over the last year or so; don't know by who, but can only imagine.

There are a few oppurtunities left for more 50 seat jets and placing our TPs under a different code share banner, but that all hinges on very key events to take place(too many to name). Most are not likely to, and honestly lots of the pilots here don't want to see it happen @ the expense of other pilots jobs, including me!

I'm just saying that it's not a good time to get on the bottom of the list at TSA, and if you have any futher Qs you can PM me.

the LR31 is for a company who does property management and real estate investing. the benefit is just basic health and no retirement and nothing. but the pay is 40k/yr. schedule is on-call, not 24/7 but it's almost like that. this is part 91. sometimes they fly intn too. i am 31.
but the position will open in 4 month. the location is socal where i live now. TSA..i am in the pool but no idea when i to be called.

part 91 Lear, no charter? And you live nearby already?

TAKE THE LEAR - it's a no brainer.

Take the Lear job and don't look back, in my humble opinion. Even if this particular position isn't your career destination, it could be a catalyst to help you obtain a better job in the future after you've given this one a fair shake. Similarly, you can always try the regional bit later on if you still feel so inclined.

I like my regional job and the crews that I fly with, but if the right corporate opportunity came along I'd probably snap it up in a heartbeat. Just my $.02, so take it with a grain of salt.

From what I've seen...

On-demand 135 is about the worst job in this industry, and certain corp jobs are *the best* flying jobs in this bizniss. Part 121 runs the gamut -- some jobs suck pretty good (but are better than on-demand 135) and some jobs are great (but not as great as the best corp jobs).
