Corporate Interview Advice

I recently interviewed with a corporate company and have a question. The company is located in the city I currently live and where my wife and I want to spend our careers. There are a couple other corporate flight departments here, but not many so I don't want to mess up any opportunities I'm given. I got the interview because I was walking my resume around and they just happened to be looking for a pilot at the time. They advertised they wanted someone with 500 hours of jet time. I have none, but I have almost 1500 hours of turbo prop time. So I was surprised and felt lucky to get an interview at all. I believe this would be a great place to spend a career.

I had a first interview about 2 weeks ago which was just a 30 minute "get to know you" type of thing. We basically talked sports, hobbies, and why we want to live here. Then they called me for a second formal interview with 2 pilots and an HR person. That was last Tuesday. I thought it went well and they told me they would let me know either way by the end of the week (last Friday). They said they had a couple other interviews of people they were considering.

I haven't heard anything. My question is, would it be ok to call to find out if I'm still in consideration. I'm curious, but I don't want to sound pushy. I don't think my lack of jet time is a factor or they would never have called me in the first place.

Should I call or just be patient a little longer? Thanks

There is nothing wrong with calling and saying Thanks for the opportunity to interview and again express your desire to obtain the position. In fact, I hope you did this the day after the interview.

Its not unusual for the process to take a while, people go out on trips, things get busy, etc...

Our companys hiring process can take 2-3 months..

Its not like a big ariline job where they will mail you a bad photocopy rejection letter not signed.

Be visible, not in the face, but be visible.

Did you get business cards form all of the people at the formal interview? Did you send in a thank you letter?

If you can't be bothered to send them a thank you letter, then don't expect to have them rush to the phone to tell you that you ddin't get the job. Unfortunatly you fall off the priority list once a decision has been made.

I would call back the person who makes the decison or the person that you had the best repor with. I would tell them that you really want the job and that you look forward to hearing from them in the future.

It may also be a case of not having the time to get everyone together to conduct the interviews. Corporate pilots still have to continue to fly the line. The reason that they are hiring is because they need a pilot, so the current staffing is low, hence the mgt folks need to pick up the slack. If this is the case then you still want to keep you name fresh in the CP's mind. Give him/her a call.

Give the contact person a call and just be polite. Like the other person said, if only 1 or 2 people are in charge, then they can get busy and such. Personally I think it's bad PR that the company/operator did not to keep their word about getting back to you, but hey... it happens.

I had an interview over 2 months ago and still no word. Finally I called and left a voicemail saying how much I was looking forward to working there and that I had not heard anything yet. The flight ops admin called me back a few days later and said things had gotten busy and the CPs were in Gulfstream school, so it would take a few more weeks. She also mentioned that when she checked the *No Thanks* pile, that my name was not in there.

So I'm kinda in the same boat, just hang in there and leave a message to let them know how interested you are. It also helps if you offer to wash their cars, do their laundry, etc...
