Just wondering if it is a good idea/bad idea, common practice/completely frowned upon to try and get the wife a job as a corporate flight attendant so she can come along on the longer trips...or any of them for that matter. Just curious.

Oh, This Should be Interesting.

Can't wait to see what crawls out of the wood work on this thread.

With our company, the answer would be no.

Company policy is that a spouse can not report to their spouse. This has come up several times within our department, when one of the pilots marries a F/A....the F/A either can't fly with their spouse, or if the spouse is a manager, the F/A resigns.

No

Just think how disrespectful that is to the hundreds of professional flight attendants out there that are trying to earn a living. Obviously this would not be this case if your wife already is a professional F/A, or really wants to be a professional F/A, not just go along on the “cool” trips with her husband.

Also, it’s hard enough to get the people in back to believe that corporate F/A’s actually enhance the safety of flight, just imagine if the people in back thought that the F/A job is just an excuse to bring the pilot’s wife along.

Save everybody a lot of headaches and simply airline your wife to the cool destinations.

Cheap date?

Great idea!

Spoken like a true professional!
Also this happened at my company at one time and I think this rule came about as a result of pressure the CP was getting from the other pilots about this situation. Its no fun to be on the road somewhere "really fun" for ten days and only worse to be third-wheeling it in the company of two love birds.
The animosity only has one way to go in these situations - up. Keep your cockpit happy together!

I know we all have our stories of what we have seen out there!!!!
But the hair or nail salon is nowhere to find a flight attendant. Know your customer! Big hair is OUT on the coasts!

Why don't you teach her how to fly? Then she could be your co-pilot.

Lequip will love this one.
