Watches

Glycines are well known and have good, mechanical movements. Omegas are great watches (I have two), but, like Rolexes, might target you in a crowd.

Check out Chase-Durers for great-looking pilot watches, but do some shopping for them before purchasing. The company website is too expensive. Also, for pilot watches which are great values and are definitely different, look at some of the Russian Poljot watches. The link I posted is representative of the several Poljot dealers. Once more, do some shopping.

I would be very, very careful about buying an Omega on eBay... And would never, EVER buy a Rolex there. Wayyyyyy too easy to get "taken".

I bought a Breitling Aerospace on eBay. The guy had really good feedback and had sold many other high end watches, so it didn't bother me a bit. 2 years and no trouble other than a new battery.

A Breitling is a fine watch, but so is Omega or any other number of very expensive watches... and not a one of them has a whole industry devoted to knockoffs (though Omega, Breitling, et. al. do have some very convincing fakes out there). There are Rolex fakes that are so good that you have to remove the back to tell the difference... So, for me, no Rolex shopping on eBay.

Like I could even afford a good FAKE.

Absolutely. Go with a reputable dealer for these makes of watches.

Many less expensive watches, such as Zeno, are sold cheaper than retail on the so-called gray market. You probably would be fine purchasing that way because such watches generally are not counterfeited. The warranty might be shaky. But, gray market or eBay isn't worth the risk for the big-name high-end makes.

Finally, be careful with TAG-Heuer. There are various TAG counterfeits floating about. In other words, if you're in the islands, don't buy a TAG for $20 from some guy with a briefcase.

Hahaha. I wish I was still flying around that patch in a 152. And it is a $2100 watch for your concern. Yes a Timex does the same job... but i bought it for more than "practical" reasons.

Had I been practical I would have continued in real estate... But I guess we all became pilots for some strange reason.

So don't give me s**t for my love of watches. And I won't give you grief because you fly.

So Mugs, I assume you shop for clothing at the Salvation Army (clothes is clothes, right? No need to spend more), got your car at a US Govt auction (a car is a car, right? No need to spend any more on an appliance), and live in a studio in the absolute least expensive part of whatever town you live in (it's just a roof, right? No need to spend any more on a place with ROOMS), etc. etc. etc.

I find it more amusing that you're making fun of this guy and his very expensive pilot watch when I'm SURE there's something in YOUR life that you spent more on than you "needed" to.

For most men I know, there's exactly two pieces of jewelry that they'll wear, their watch and a wedding ring (or, before the wedding ring, the college ring). If the women can get their $5-10thousand engagement rings, why can't a guy have a $2thousand watch? At least the watch tells you the time!!

I have a Casio Data Bank (World Timer). Its a little thick but does a great job. Stores 50 or so phone no's, stop watch etc. 12 & 24 hr formats and cost's around $ 60.00 US.
