Could've been the guys sphincters quivering when they realized what the hell they were acually doing!

More than likely it was a logbook clipboard-can or perhaps the photographer's camera case rattling in response to the rough runway, which probably contained plenty of rocks.

It could not have been the trim wheel running continuously like that, although it did sound an awful lot like it. If it had been the trim, it would have been way out of the takeoff range by the time the movie clip ends.

cool video...anybody care to translate the dialog? what are they talking about?

what the narrarator was saying....loosly translated, was:

"...this has never been done before..."

and that:

"...this is quite a unique economic opportunity..."

and

"...with this method of moving fuel around Africa..."

and then some rambling on about sustaining the needs of users of fuel, etc...

he was talking really fast in French!

but that was the gist of it.

Looks like a freaking suicide mission if you ask me! But I didn't catch any of that in the conversation.

But, as in all things in aviation, there are no shortage of folks willing to do it...

good for them!

From people i know who worked there, stab trim was set by being 'green band and set'. No actual setting was used.

Nothing like a 72' on a dirt strip. OUTSTANDING!

Over on pprune, in the Africa forum, there's a thread about Trans-Afrik that explains who this guy is in the video. All I can say is that I am not worthy...and will not live long enough to be THAT worthy. Anyone who flies 300 hours a month in those conditions should never buy his own beer...ever !!
