So American Airlines is in the process of selling off their Fokker 100 fleet, and some company in Canada suddenly needs qualified Fokker 100 Captains.

You gotta love it. More outsourcing of AAmerican jobs.

"THis is a Good Thing"

According to the President's Economic Advisor, outsourcing of American jobs makes economic sense and is a "good thing"!
Tell that to all the furloughed/unemployed pilots in the nation that have lost jobs the past few years.
It was only a matter of time before our industry would succumb the same as manufactoring and some other service industries that see this method as the way "forward". My question is at what expense?
Highly recommend Lou Dobb's CNN program series "Tonight" each weekday on Exporting America. If you don't believe it, you will after watching just one episode of this. Very educational and enlightening....just watch.

Sorry dudes, you are comparing apples & oranges, American is phasing out their F100's due to the age of the aircraft and not because they are outsourcing work to Canada.

Fokker 100 'old'? I guess it's a relative term. It was the newest aircraft that I ever flew. I think they were built in the early '90s.

MONTREAL, Feb 5 (Reuters) - Canadian discount airline Jetsgo said on Thursday it will buy 18 used Fokker 100s from American Airlines (AMR) in a bid to more than double its fleet and steal more passengers away from Air Canada (AC) and WestJet Airlines Ltd. (WJA).
Jetsgo will take delivery of seven of the 105-seats aircraft immediately. The others will be delivered over the next year.
The Montreal-based airline did not disclose financial details, but said the purchase of the first seven plans would be financed with its own cash reserves.
The privately held carrier, launched two years ago, said the expansion will include the hiring of 650 new employees, which should bring its total workforce to around 1,300.
Jetsgo, which already operates 14 160-seat MD-83s, said the new planes would fly on its existing routes as well as new ones to be announced before June. The airline currently flies to 11 Canadian cities and 6 U.S. cities.
"Even though we are introducing a second aircraft type into our fleet, we will maintain the same low seat-mile cost, which is the best in the Canadian industry," Jetsgo president Michel Leblanc said in a release

Can you say 'code share'?

OK, so there you have it.

It may not be outright outsourcing but it is still a slap in the face of American pilots. AA have phased them out of their fleet and I would bet that a large proportion of former F100 pilots are among the total AA furloughed personnel. Plus, read the paragraph about approx. 650 new jobs created at Jetsgo. Also, last time I looked these advertised jobs on HCL were for Canadian citizens and Canadian ATPL holders . So, unless those former AA pilots were also dual citizens, they cannot even be considered for the job!

Whichever way you look at it, it sucks. Looks like the economy and jobs will be the single largest issue in the upcoming election.
