Currently, ALL new hires are going to Newark. The bid that just closed had the majority of vacancies in Newark. The list I have shows all new hires going to Newark until at least September.

Next perm bid will be in August and that should be the first chance to bid to any base/position you want.

so what are they telling the new hires these days about growth/ hiring?

Deliveries planned for this year, two 777's. In 2008 plan on 30 737-800/900's with a few 737-300 retirements. 2009 is another 30 737-800/900 deliveries. Planned growth is at 5% per year. I almost forgot, the first of 20 787's begin delivery in 2008 also.

Lots of international growth and tons of 737's coming in the next few years. Don't forget the retirements in the next few years and things begin to look really good for CAL.

Hiring will continue over the summer at 24/month. In the spring the training center fires up again to 64/month.

Most importantly, the current contract expires Dec. 2008. CAL pilots EXPECT SIGNIFICANT improvements over contract '02. :) Time will tell.
