Watch they probably will cancel the Airbus orders. They will work out a deal with Boeing to cancel and get them to pay the cancellation penalty.

Do you think this could lead to adding more Boeings to the combined fleet over time and reducing the Airbus footprint?

I don't think that makes much sense even though CAL has been an exclusive Boeing customer. At the end of the day, you want negotiating leverage between the manufacturers to get the best prices...

We're getting more 737-700's? That's news to me. Did they convert some of the orders from 800/900er's to 700's?

These numbers are not accurate. There are no more 737-700 orders, and many more 800 and 900s.

CAL has board members from Boeing. I don't think it would be a stretch for the combined airline to excercise all Boeing options to replace the Airbus.

I think "they" (Jeff) will work towards an all Boeing fleet. May take years, but the cost savings are enormous over the long term. CAL has only three fleet types. Aside from maintenance cost savings, each pilot is trained on just one of these three types, reducing training cycles ongoing.

Even more, they've standardized the checklists, procedures, and evals among the three types so that a person who transfers equipment has minimal training required since the operation of the planes are as similar as possible. The main difference is the destination ops (international vice domestic), but even this gap is narrowing a bit with domestic 737s flying Pacific ETOPs now, and Guam 737s having done so for years now.
