Gruezi Kollegen !

A good friend of mine is looking at various type rating facilities for a 737 rating. I did already a search under various Southwest threads and found some good infos about two particular places which are very well recommended.

Question - has anybody in particular experience with the Continental Airlines Training Center ?

As i have been informed, the FAA license only shows a 737 rating entry but without type specification. If one completes training on the 200 series and then moves to the NG series, how is the differences training handled ?

The TYPE rating listed on the certifiicate is for the B737 which is good for all models in the series - 737-100 to the 800 (is there a 900 yet?) After the initial type ride there is differences training at your carrier or contract training location for the other models in the series you wish to fly.

For the DC9 type the models include DC9-10, 30, 50, 80 and 90 series and the B717 all under the "DC9" listed on the certificate.

If you care to look at the entire list for all type rated aircraft you can find it in the FAA Order 8700, 8400 and the Designated Examiners Handbook.

Here, yes. Not so in Europe where a type rating in a -300 does not give authority fly other series of the same type.

Efis... you are correct. I assumed sub... was asking about the USA. As an example many countries do not list single engine land on a certificate but which model of single engine land you are allowed to fly down to Cessna 152, Cessna 172 and so on.JAFI
 
Indeed, i was asking about the USA . Thanks for the insight JAFI. If i interpret this right: with the FAA 737 entry on the license, you are legally able to fly the series your training has been given on (like 200 or 3-5, NG). Anything else needs diff. training - like in Europe.

efis is right. Myself is allowed to operate "only" series 300 & 500. But the JAA can sometimes issue quite funny things. During transition from national to JAA license, a friend of mine operated same models (3/5) and had these entries. What a surprise when he's new JAA paper arrived - he was given permission on series 200-900, all entered as ratings . He would never apply to fly a plane he has not been trained for but basically your license say's "yes".

But actually in this case, the guy needs a 737 rating for his FAA license.
 
I got my type at Continental and I recommend it. Airline instructors (like most places), so they know what they are doing. When I did it I think it was $8000 but I don't know if it has gone up since. I did it in a -300 EFIS sim, but like others have said, it doesn't matter what you get it in, it is a 737 type. Didn't have to fly the plane.

Yes, there is a -900. We operate them at Alaska.
