Well, figured it would happen with the user fees in congress and leaving paxs on planes 12 hours and such, guess they need a reason to blame anyone but themselves for airline delays...

Private jets use Newark, delay commercial flights

Teterboro Airport's flood-related closure has forced more private jets to land at Newark Liberty International Airport, causing delays for commercial passengers and upsetting the airport's largest carrier, officials said Tuesday.

Continental Airlines complained that its on-time arrival rate at Newark fell to 22 percent on Monday because of increased traffic from Teterboro, said Russ Halleran, president of the National Air Traffic Controllers Association at Newark Liberty. Teterboro has been closed since Monday because of flooding on its runways and taxiways.
"It is definitely affecting the arrivals into Newark," Halleran said. "They [Continental] were a little displeased with what happened yesterday [Monday], and it's apparently happening today [Tuesday]."
Julie King, a Continental spokeswoman in Houston, said the extra traffic at Newark is causing dealys.

"We know the ATC [air traffic control] is going the best job they can, yet the additional unscheduled demand that these corporate jets are putting on the system means more delays for the traveling public," she said.
A spokesman for the airports' operator, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, confirmed that Continental has complained about general aviation's effect on Newark's operations.
"The airports are a system, and this only highlights why Teterboro is important to all travelers," said spokesman Marc La Vorgna.
Teterboro, which handles about 190,000 takeoffs and landings every year, remained closed to most traffic on Tuesday, La Vorgna said. Fewer than 10 departures were able to take off on Tuesday, he said.
He said he could not estimate when the airport would reopen.
"There is just so much water in that area," La Vorgna said.

Its normal on-time arrival rate is only 23% so why are they bitchin?

How many times are you ready to go at an airport that 121 guys too and you get put in the back of the line because someone has a time to meet?

Like a few "corporate jets" caused delays in EWR, doubt it. When isn't there delays in EWR?

one idea put forth by an MIT professor a few years ago spoke to putting out for bid a certain number of slots and during peak times making them much higher to procure.

the FAA hasn't lifted a finger in regulating the over saturated peak times and big norhteast hubs.

the customer is smart.they'll pay less no matter what time it is. i think the you'll see sometime in the next 10 years passenger flights in the middle of the night. demand is so strong it is the only place to put the increased demand. no way the airlines can add capacity and do this during normal business hours. with the global economy , why not?

Ahhh...the old scapegoat reaction. Things don't go our way, so we blame someone else for our misgivings. Doesn't surprise me they'd stoop to this level, but the truth is they're typically late and after TEB opens for business as usual, they'll still be late on departure. Wonder what they'll say when the VLJ's start buzzing around.

And yet, the putz Congressman from New Jersey (Steve Rothman D-NJ if memory serves) would love to CLOSE Teterboro for good because of the noise whiners in his district.

Jersey politics is about as corrupt as MASSPORT in BOS. Democrat or Republican...if you're in NJ, you're paying someone to represent your "interests".

Come'on guys. Doesn't anybody have an objective viewpoint on this forum? Everybody knows that trying to jam 10 pounds of crap into a 5 pound jar is going to cause delays. KEWR is delayed every single day period. No matter what the weather, ATC, etc. Everybody knows that flying into EWR you don't assess whether that airfield is experiencing delays or not. You assess the magnitude of the delays.

So yes, EWR having to pickup TEB's flow is going to cause further delays/problems at EWR.

They forgot to mention that Signature EWR had a 3000% increase in fuel sales and ramp fees. I wonder how much extra was paid to PANYNJ for landing fees (to the Aviation Trust Fund)???

Hmmm. Funny that part was left out.

Actually they do, it's called the LGA "slottery" not sure if this is administered by the FAA or the New York Port Authority. Granted, LGA is just one "appendage" in the overall NE corridor as far as traffic is concerned.

Ha they are just pissed because the guy in the "little jets" are making more than the whole flight crew.

Yeah, like when it is VFR, you are the only aircraft ready to depart from TEB, and they decide to do individual releases because of flow into EWR. 20 mins later they let you depart on the dalton departure VFR.

My favorite is when we are landing with a tailwind at TEB because of traffic into EWR.

The guy in the back of your jet is also making more that day than the sum total of the entire pay earned by every Netjets pilot on duty that day.

For example, Ford Motor Co. on Thursday said it awarded new Chief Executive Alan Mulally compensation of $39.1 million for four months of work in 2006, a year when the second-largest U.S. automaker posted a $12.7 billion loss.

When you guys go a vacation or visit Aunt Marge, you fly commercial just like everyone else. You might be flying on miles, but you're not in the back of a Citation X. You guys might think you live in the fast lane, but you're just hired help like the butler or the limo driver. I know....I've been there done that...TEB-ACK-BOS-ACK-HPN-MVY.....or if it's winter, TEB-PBI-MMU-FLL.................................................

The guy in the back of our airplanes makes more than the sum total of everyone on board of any CO airplane at any time, thats what they are so upset about. Screw the airlines its a crapy way to fly just wish I never had to do it. But such is life. I should of been born rich.

Well, not necessarily true...yes, we of course fly in the back of an airliner but we also have the advantage of flying on one of our empty flights to anywhere they are going. 250 empty flights a day and most are scheduled in the computer make it a nice "private" airline. Not a sole on board..:) oh, and free! It pains me to even use frequent flyer miles on an airline...somehow, even that seems a bit pricey for the outstanding customer service the airlines have built their reputations on.

When's the last time you saw a CAL 737 make an approach and landing into TEB?

Doesn't matter. The fact that CAL is saturating the airspace NEAR and AROUND TEB is enough to cause big delays for us. Two tours ago I sat in the run-up pad at MMU for over 30 minutes, on a gorgeous sunny day, waiting for a break in the traffic flow into EWR so I could be released. 30 freaking minutes (and that could be considered a short delay considering some of the waits I've had) and I didn't see one single CAL flight touch down at MMU.

The fact of the matter was that I was in the morning line up, waiting for takeoff on the morning this POS article came out. I was number 40 for the runway, I watched one G5 takeoff in front on me, and two biz jets land. I also know there was one biz jet behind me. Most of the traffic waiting for takeoff was RJ's. RJs everywhere.

Was the ramp crowded at Signature, yes, was the airport overrun by biz jets?? No.

The airlines have to blame their issues on someone. Biz jets are a easy target.

Just look at the when the airlines used 9/11 to rape the government for money. The airlines were in bad shape long before 9/11 and they just used it as an excuse for bad management. So why wouldn't they blame their delays on someone else too?
