Continental and Express Jet rejecting Colgan jumpseaters?

Just heard this thru the rumor grapevine....

CAL and Express Jet are not allowing Colgan Pilots to jumpseat even though a reciporcal agreement exists.

Somebody said that it has something to do with Colgan messing up their performance bonus and CJC is not on the CASS list yet. Any truth to this?

Regardless of what the reason is, something's up. Word from Manassas is that CAL and Jetlinkers are still welcome to ride jumpseat on Colgan. Hope this gets straightened out.

I really hope this is not true, I've met a few Colgan pilots and they are a great group of guys (and girls).

Do you guys have ACARS?

I rode up front on a Continental Express jumpseat today and had no problems. The pilots knew we were approved for them I think its still getting all worked out with big Continental. Hopefully we can all get it straightened out soon and end the confusion one way or another.

think Colgan will ever get on CASS?

We recently received a union email stating that Colgan folks are in fact allowed up front. Perhaps prior to this letter being sent out there was some confusion and a few folks got denied. I hope that isn't the case. I don't believe that someone here would deny someone a jumpseat because of the performance bonus (I don't even think Colgan is taken into account) or the CASS thing.

XJT was told that Colgan could not ride in the cockpit because of a lack of JA entries (computer verification). As of a couple of days ago, the JA entries were in place and Colgan may now ride in the cockpit. Maybe mcpickle can come on and clarify things. He's our jumpseat coordinator and does one helluva job.

Colgan is not factored into DOT on-time performance and thus, our on-time bonus checks. Colgan pilots are allowed to ride upfront, as said above. Prior to this new development, they couldn't ride up front but they could ride in the back, if a seat was available. Don't let the rumor mill get you down....

From the JS update we sent out on May 23.
  • Colgan Airlines is currently flying in IAH under the Continental Brand. These pilots now all have XXXXXXXX entries in XXXXXXXXX. As such they may occupy our cockpit jumpseats. This is only for the IAH based Colgan pilots. Please help these folks in their commutes. An FIL will be issued shortly.
(xxxxx are my edit for need-to-know info :D)

Steve England, a good chap at Colgan has my direct number and he hasn't called with any problems. Now we always have a few guys that take a bit longer than usual to get with the program. If there has been any Colgan guy left behind I am sorry. If and when it does happen I track down the crew and just let them know we take Colgan folks.

I am looking forward to Colgan being in IAH. I have heard they may have less weight issues than the EMB-120 for our commuters trying to get to work.

xjet doesn't ride with the cass system. Cass is for CAL only. Problems have existed with the gate agents not knowing who is who in regards to xjet and CAL and the CASS systems. I have personally tried to explain to a gate agent that we were taking someone who was not coming up on the CASS system because xjet does not use it. Now if the problem is with riding up front, some phone calls might be in order.

Kind of off subject, but the last two days I was in IAH I didn't see one Saab, but Skywest was all over the place. When is Skywest officially out?

FOX NEWS ALERT Jumpseat Problem resolved

Just got an update....

Colgan is now on the JA list officially at both CAL and XJET and the reciporcal jumpseat agreement is good to go.

Also heard that Colgan is looking into getting the CASS program up and going soon.

Good News finally...

Have a great holiday everyone...

We took a Colgan CA up front the other day.......

I have also taken Colgan folks up front. I have heard of no problems with them. Who knows why some folks may not take them. CAL is a different stroy. Their agents can be hard to deal with from time to time and they take the whole CASS thing seriously. If you aint on CASS they will probable tell you to hit the road. Be patient.

Had a problem jumpseating out of TPA on Continental WED. I was allowed to jumpseat but told I could only sit in the back. The back was full, so even after a cell phone call to the Continental CP, I was still told SORRY.

Left behind to wait another 3 hours inwhich I was granted the jumpseat.

This is where the rumor probabley started, but even with my Continental T number, my Continental ID, Pilot and Medical, I was still denied the cockpit.

Colgan management jumped right on this problem and told it would be fixed ASAP. It was impressive how responsive they were in dealing with the mix up and how many calls I got on my cell from CO. Thanks for the help.

I think things are now OK.

HINT, when you fill out your jumpseat pass, under ID, don't put your Colgan ID, put your CO T number. EX. write "JA-T1234".
This is how the gate agent must enter it to show your allowed.

Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing you get from CAL pilots. Sorry you were treated that way. Maybe some day you can "return the favor" to that guy.

True, the CAL Captains even pi$$ on us XJT guys quite a bit when it comes to the jumpseat. This is not all of the CAL Captains, but many of the IAH based ones.

Fortunately every time I've had sit up front on CAL, they've been very welcoming and included me in their conversations as well.

CAL Pilots are Eagle Fans and that is their problem is!!!! Eagle Fans Sux!!!!

Just playin'!!!!!

You can find all kinds and you handled it well and I hope the CP gives that guy sht for not letting you ride up front!!!

With the garbage you spew on here I'm not sure I can blame a CAL guy for giving you a hardtime. I've gotten grief from one CAL captain over the course of five years and that was cause he was fighting with his FO about the ALPA vote. Other then that countless times I've sat in the second 737-500 jumpseat and never once heard a bad word from the crew eventhough it makes the captain seat far less comfortable.

To the rest of you, don't believe this simple minded mentality. CAL guys know you are just trying to get a ride and will do everything within their power to accomidate you. It isn't their fault if an agent is telling them that you can't ride up front cause the computer says no. Sometimes its hard to keep up with the lastest jumpseat issues over CASS, who's the new connection airline, etc... Individuals like AviatorTx and BankAngle like to start drama where none exists, probably cause they are bored with their home life.

Not entirely true, some of 73 drivers seem to be very bitter about us taking away "their flying". However, most of CAL pilots are happy to give you a ride, especially 75 drivers.

Granted some feel this way, but I've never seen it transfered onto the jumpseat. They may want to curse about the rj during cruise, but I've found the discussions that follow are quite civil. I've gotten way too many rides in tight spots for me to sit back and let people badmouth CAL pilots as relates to jumpseat politics.

I've never been denied a ride either, but a couple times tey made me feel like a third class citizen, and I've had a couple friends had very bad experiences. I know it's just a few bad apples, but it only takes one to spoil their image.

TO get back to the subject. I had a Colgan Capt. Jumpseat on my flight the yesterday and we were happy to be able to get him down to houston to get to work.

And his name is Jimmy Tr...oh, never mind.

I still like the idea that somebody had. Every XJT ARC pilot should find out what flight he's flying and try to jumpseat. Each on individually. Maybe even others just on long sits. He might blow a gasket if he has to deny like 40 of us.:D

He is GONE! He is and HAS been on medical leave for quite some time!

Maybe the exodus is beginning. With their leaders (Debbie and Jimmy) gone, maybe more will follow.
