I think street captains are in the future again for CJC. There is just no way that with 45 or so airplanes coming in the next (2-3yrs?) We don't have enough qualified FO's. What does everyone else think? Anyone know how long the training is for transition to Q?

The Math doesn't seem to workout though, i'm betting, in the coming years they are going to phase out some of the saab flying leaving some with no better option then to bid the Q. That schedule probably won't keep up with the rate at which we are bringing on the Q's though.

I am hearing there will not be street captains, but I am not sure how this is all going to get worked out as there is obviously a gap between FO's with the required flight time and aircraft deliveries. Add to this the trickle of hiring this year that is sure to become a mass exodus in the next couple of years and I am not sure what their long term strategy is to keep experienced, talented pilots on property.

Good to see some of the finest pilots in the industry who put up with some of the most severe BS of any airline finally getting their chance to upgrade.

Amazing to me that EWR Q-400 capt went junior to Saab Capt with an 08' hire being awarded the Q. perhaps a pay raise might help get some of the senior guys over to the Q?

I am so tired of hearing people saying "some of the finest pilots...". What makes them the finest pilots in the industry? The fact that they willingly applied, interviewed and accepted a class date with the regional who dishes out the finest BS on a silver platter? Their ability to take a beating better than the majority of red headed step children?

You're trying to sound like your high society. giving a toast at a great big ball. Standing up in your tuxedo, raising your glass of grape juice (8 hour rule) and toasting to "the finest....". When in reality most of the FO's upgrading are talking like upper class gangsta, for realz and fo sho, real talk.

Pay raise, you say? HA! You have ALPA now, aren't you collecting the 6 figure paycheck yet? Just ask the Spirit guys how their new love affair with ALPA is going.....that's if you can catch them on the river ALPA sent them down, in canoe with an outboard engine.

Yes, there are some good guys at Colgan. And yes, ALPA sucks!

Their long term strategy does not look past tomorrow, its the way pinnacle has always operated and they will never change. As soon as other regionals really pick up hiring, colgan and pinnacle will finally pay for thier actions becuase no one in their right mind unless they live in base should have either of these companies as their first choice. Upgrade time will go to the street, so you will have a bunch of pilots upgrading to an airplane that they have never flown before. Its all part of the "we fixed it" plan

Ok, Ok I'm not saying CJC pilots are better than anyone else in the industry. CJC does, however, have some great aviators who often recieve little credit or recognition, from peers or mgmt, for the great, safe and professional job they do despite some of the toughest working conditions in the industry. I'm not proud of the company for their track record on performance and treatment of employees, but I am very proud of the pilots who despite this tough environment manage to crack a joke, shine their shoes and conduct safe and professional flights while working hard to improve this little corner of the industry.

So yes, they are some of the finest and stand among many of the great pilots throughout the industry.

What makes them so great? They have superhuman powers? Are they able to fly their airplanes unlike anyone else? Do they have time warp abilities? Can they predict icing before it occurs?
What makes a pilot, a great pilot? Is this only a secret Colgan pilots know? When you move onto your next carrier, are you going to tell your new boss "Sorry sir, we might have a good pilot group here, but Colgan has THE finest!"?

I would say they're a resilient pilot group, seeing that management dishes out so much BS, and not a single pilot has burned the place to the ground.....yet.

Oh, and before I forget. How is that contract coming? You guys getting the big bucks ALPA promised you? If so, maybe you can call the Spirit guys, obviously their MEC hung them out to dry.

Sounds like the ideal solution is to not take any additional Q's. This will save Colgan the troubles of shoveling 10 more lbs of sh!t into a broken plastic bag. Additionally the new 'United' will get business back from all the elite customers that have stampeded elsewhere due to Colgan's operation being as reliable as BP. But CAL won't hear of it since they are as well informed as Baghdad Bob. 'There is nothing to show that customers book away from Colgan.'
