Commuting to Martha's Vineyard and ACK

I used to spend many summers out in Martha's Vineyard as a kid. In the years to come I was thinking about going back there (or Nantucket) for the summer. [wow what great times I had there] I checked the flights out of there and it's 90% Cape Air. Do they accept jumpseaters?

What are some commuting options to both of those islands?

Colgon Air flies to both, out of LGA, for Usairways

Cape Air JumpSeat

Cape Air has reciprocal agreements with most Airlines. They also pretty much accept anyone who talks to the Captain even if your not on their list but can show the proper credentials (Ie 135 or or 121 ID and pilots certificates. They will take as many jumpseaters as there are seats. Unfortunatley there only nine total seats available however sometimes its more than one plane/section per flight. Good luck.

I didn't see that many flights on Colgan out of MVY... they were mainly out of ACK.

By the way, do you guys ever have trouble flying in and out of there when the fog hits? I remember how tenacious the fog can be out there.

You can take Colgan from LGA to MVY, ACK, and HYA... and from BOS to those three as well.. As the winter approaches, our flights will slow to the cape and Cape Air will be your best bet.

I learned to fly at HYA, and speaking from experience advection fog in the Cape and Islands region can be a real B#tch in late spring early fall. All it would take was a slight onshore breeze to sock you in pretty good.

If you do commute try to avoid the weekends because when i worked there there was rarely a weekend day that our flights to ACK and MVY were not full. Just in general make sure you check and call ahead because our planes were usually full

That's what I figured. The B1900 and C402 don't have jumpseats, so I could see it being a real tough commute.
