Any Pinnacle pilots commuting from Pensacola to Memphis? Any trouble getting a seat? Also do you get flight privileges during training?

Good luck.

When I was with EXA (pre-PCL) it was usuallly full. Sundays were crazy as all the ex-navy fedexers tried to report to work. I really can't think of a more difficult place to commute from. My roommate was always having trouble getting in and out of PNS.

If you don't mind the drive, MOB is usually do-able, as is PFN. I don't know if NW still go into VPS--they used to with the -9's.

Sorry.

#1...THere are so many 9E pilots out of PNS and a few out of MOB that you might want to think about moving. I am not kidding you! I used to live in PNS and I moved here to Memfrica! THe commute sucks!
#2 During training there are no jumpseat or non-rev privellages. If you want to go home for a weekend (like you will have the time with the studying) you might have to drive the 7.5 hours back to PNS. Been there DOne that. Did I fail to mention that I moved?
#3 If you are a new hire, you will most likely get DTW out of training 50/50 chance, so basically that will be a 2 leg commute to DTW. Now that really sucks from PNS!

I have had to take AirTran to ATL then get a flight to MEM just to get here. Getting back to PNS is even worse. So many times I have had to go to MOB or to Ft. Walton. Mob and VPS are 1.5 hour drive either way. PFN will be about 3 hours.

Good Luck!

I used to teach at milton then PAC. Also VT-86

Flights been MEM-PNS are always full. Spring break and summer time in general are very bad. Northwest guys that live there sometimes have difficulty because of the Pinnacle guys sitting in the jumpseat. Not an easy commute for anyone involved.

I don't mind moving - in fact we've been planning on it. I had hoped to hold off for awhile until we are sure what location is best. I've been considering the Memphis area as it is close to the wife's family and away from hurricanes. We'll see but I'll have to make the commute work for the short term.

How long is training?

If you go to memphis, just think east memphis. I lived there for 3 years. Collierville and germantown are nice. Anything west of that and you are gambling.

Is TN the best deal or are MS or AR competitive as far as quality of life, expenses and schools?
MS is a good place, there a lot of new houses going up. Olive Branch and South Haven, or horn lake are nice areas except you have to pay state taxes. i do not kow how much that is. THe schools are Desoto County Schools if you want to do a search on them. I do not know about AR, but if you look at West memphis AR that would be about a 20 minute drive to the parking lot at MEM for employee parking. I live in East Memphis now, no city taxes but there is a county tax...I pay aout 1600 yr on the house. Shelby county schools, there is talk about converting it to Memphis city schools, if the happens I will put the kids in a private school. MSC are worse than Pensacola schools, like escambia or pensacola high. As fr as the drive from east memphis ( Germantown, Collieville, Cordova, Lakeland) the drive is about 30 minutes on a good day! I used to live in Perdido, so this drive is a little closer to the airport than that one was. So many shops and stores in such a short area. It takes 5 minutes to drive to the Wolf Chase Galleria, Home Depot, Wal-Mart.etc...
The Training...
I believe 3 weeks of ground maybe 4. You will have 3-4 CBT sessions with an oral exam at the end of that, then you start the sim. I still think it is 10 sim sessions with the checkride either on the 10th one, or it is the 11th one, and you will have a LOFT in the sim ( Line oriented flight training of 4 hours s in the sim to simulate flying a real rev flight dowm and back to somewhere like Huntsville). Once you do the checkride in the sim youare HIRED and you will be set up with 25 hours of OE with a checkairmen flying the line. After that you are on your own fou about 10 months of probation. Keep you nose clean, get good evaluations, do not call in sick without a MD excuse, and you are golden.

Hope this helps out. If you need any more info just PM me.
