So this is my first year in the industry and I have a trip that ends @2010 on the Wednesday before T'giving. We have 2 flights that would get me back to Tampa that night (plus 2 into MCO as backup). Is it just a total mad-house trying to fly that night, or should I make plans to stay in ATL?

Thanks in advance,
Catfish

I don't think it would affect the loads if you are heading to England ;-) I hear they don't give much thought to thanksgiving...

ditto, buy a ticket now, maybe you'll get a good discount this far in advance.

I bought one for the night of the 23rd. I think it's going to be a busy season... If you want to get home, go for the sure thing. You'll sleep better the nights leading up to the 24th.

What about commuting from HNL on Tuesday before Thanksgiving?

Somehow I got Thanksgiving off.

I'm thinking everyone will be headed to HNL, not from. Thoughts?

I think they will be going from, most people have family on the mainland.

Think about how many military folks stationed on Oahu will be traveling to chow down with their mainland ohana that week....packed in both directions.

Just bought a ticket - $300 on Hawaiian, positive space.

You could have trouble Jumpseating home.

If your ending in Atlanta go ahead and just drive up from MCO for your sequence that week!

OK, so I bought the ticket. That's probably good advice for the peace of mind.

AirTran has a 1 hour policy for the JS. Seniority first for prior to 1 hour, inside that, first to sign up owns it.

Now for how to get back to work on Saturday.............

J/S on Thanksgiving day should not be a problem. I have always found that communting on the holiday day is fairly easy.

I'm sure your competition appreciates it.
And, I appreciate the "competition" as well.

Aloha serves a "niche" market. I am not that niche.

Edited to give Hugh Jorgan a break....

My apologies buddy...

I'm not rich either, but I'll be shelling out for a T-giving ticket this year too. Mostly because I'm working on the 24th and don't wanna gamble on the 25th. I'm a meanie, dammit.

I've did the commute for a few years and didn't have much of a problem. I've never bought a ticket, either. Patience, Grasshopper, patience.

Between the JS on Airtran, and the grave possibility of Delta, you might have had a chance. Try it, unless the ticket is non-refundable. You can try MCO or DAB, also, as long as you don't mind the drive. Try SRQ or GNV, too. I commuted out of MCO, and have not gotten home on the same day once, and had to fly into DAB only once. Call it luck, I guess. Try flying down on the first flight out Thursday morning. Fatigue will suck, but the loads will be light.

If you can come back up to ATL on Thursday night, do it. Most planes are empty. Other than that, Friday morning or forget it. Starting Friday night, most loads begin to pick up again to avoid the "rush".

Good luck with the commute. I did it for 3 years.
