Any update if we as 121 crew can take our "liquids" with us out of uniform as of yet? Im getting over the uniform commute.
Thanks

I've been commuting out of uniform since the day they implemented the new S.D. When I commute out of CLT I've never had a problem and/or been stopped to have my bag checked.

Commuted the other day out of uniform(MEM) they took my toothpaste and my shaving cream.

That's one of my biggest issues with airport security these days, no standardization across the country. You go one place and it's one way, go to another and it's completely different. I guess that's big government for ya.

That's cuz you ain't blackpilot628. LOL.

Hell, MEM would take mine too.
As MJG said, there seems to be no standardization across the board. For example, CMH is one the worst. They took anything from me that was eatable.Took my water and my can of soup. They said if I could eat it, that it wasn't going. Unreal

Just pack your uniform in your suitcase and offer to change if they want to take everything away. I'm thinking about doing that; they get smart with us - I'm just going to return the favor.

Just easier to wear the monkey suit.

Were you in uniform when this happened?

Agreed. I have a 3+ hour commute to work but I'd rather wear the uniform than deal with these other hassles.

no ramen...no pilot...

We can take scissors on board but not liquids. Even in unifrom, if we buy a coffee at the gate we must drink it before we get on board. But we can still take scissors on board

Yes, I was commuting home after my trip that afternoon. I asked to speak to the supv and he came over with the new S.D. Showed it to me on paper.
I was like, Ok then; take what you need to take.

Had an interesting event in MCI a couple weeks ago...

CA treats me to Starbucks for a o-dark 30 show. This was a few days after the new SD came out, so we knew it had to be gone before we got on the airplane. We walk through security and Pedro (non-TSA but contract security, mind you) says you can't have that. Uhh, yeah we can, we tell him, its okay through security but not down the jetway. He says if its in a bag its okay, but we can't carry anything through...so if I had put said Starbucks into my lunchbox, it'd have been okay, but I couldn't carry it through.

So we say "Okay, whatever" and pound our coffee...only to see a KC Police Officer with a Rockstar energy drink about 15ft inside the checkpoint. CA says to Pedro "If we as pilots can't get through security with a drink, how can HE?" pointing towards the cop. The cop nervously puts his hand on it while Pedro stammers they have no control over law enforcement. "So you can tell the people flying the airplane they can't have coffee inside security, but a cop is exempt?" Pedro never had a good answer for that one, and walked away as he kinda trailed off in his explanation.

Am I reading this right that you aren't allowed to bring a drink on a flight you're operating?

If so, I can't wait to tell El Jefe Piloto why every one of my AM flights is late. "TSA delay... Stop serving instant garbage on the airplanes and I won't have to finish my Fourbucks at the gate instead of on the airplane".

This crap is rediculous..... Might be time to pull the parking brake on the entire industry if they're gonna play these games!

yet it's so easy to simply put a bottle of Coke or a sandwich in your bag...

true story. I was in CLT and tried to buy a thing of Huckleberry jelly at their crappy giftshop. The person behind the register told me they weren't allowed to sell it (even though it was displayed on the shelf). I told her I was crew. Didn't matter. Finally, I told her that I was going to go get my crew bag, since I am allowed to take liquids through security, I would simply buy it and put it in my bag and take it. No deal. I said screw you and walked away.

As for MEM, it is the only time in my life that I have been wanded, and I was in UNIFORM!!!!! And I didn't set any metal detectors off either. The TSA biotch's explanation..."we randomly wand crew members too. It's a Memphis thing."

P121 pilots should get issued a goverment ID. That way TSA would feel comfortable letting us in in secure areas in or out of uniforms.

Last I heard we got banned in our ops rooms if not in uniforms. Only escorted by someone.

But I do see their (TSA) point. All airline badges look different. It's so easy to make a badge that looks like an airline ID with some bogus airline.

And it's not easy to buy a uniform online?

I want to know who checked the drinks on the plane? Or the jug'o' coffee that came out of ops. Better not tell TSA or they'll take them too.

But then, how could they smell your breath to see if you've been drinking?

That reminds me of an episode just after 9-11 I had with a cop. After a particular grueling strip search, to include the ol' "wand inside the trouser seam" treatment, I was really ticked off. Right inside security was a bored airport cop with a handgun. I approached the cop and asked with respect "When you arrive to work in the morning, what do you have to do to get through this security station?" He showed me the cheapest imaginable, bad plastic ID card, much easier to forge than anything an aircrew carries. "That's it?" "Yup."

Needless to say, that made me even more hacked, but wisely I didn't go back to flame the pimply 19 yr old at the x-ray machine.

The double-standard continues to astound.
