Got a call from CommutAir, they're prescreening for a fall interview. I've checked AviationInterviews but has anyone else gotten a similar call. I met them at the Air Inc seminar in Atl in June. I freaked when I heard the message, someone from an airline actually called!

Hey Data I would like to extend my congrats to you as well.... I also talked to them in Atl......No phone call yet.....I am flying 135 now but am very much intrested in 121.....Do you recall their competitive minimums.
Data - I recieved the same call last week and have an interview in PLB next week. I had a friend walk my resume and letter of rec. into them in May. It took them a while to call, but they called!
Aviationinterviews is right on with what they do in the interview. Study the ATP questions, Jepp. charts, Wx stuff (icing!), and you'll be prepared. They've pretty much done the same interview for the last few years.
Their mins. are 900 total, 100 multi...they usually will only call if you have a letter of rec. from a CommutAir pilot.
Yes a call seems to be a good indicator that you will have an interview coming up. congratulations!
Since I never got around to posting my experience at www.aviationinterviews.com I thought I would share with you...
first off I would say that most people at commutair are very happy working there. It's not much money, but the treatment of pilots seems pretty good compared to other places. My friend was the old check airman and said he would have stayed forever if he could have afforded it (big family).
My interview was 3 months ago so I don't know how much this will help. I believe they don't really change their format very much or very often so here it goes...
got there about 45min early and they were really pleased since all the people scheduled in the morning were stuck at other airports. Signed in at the front desk. Met Amy Recor, of human resources. She sat me down at a desk and immediately had me take a short written test. If you are current on the atp book (minus any diagram questions) it should be a breeze (I got a 100%). after that sat down in the coffee break room and a couple of other interviewees got there. Amy went through the company speech about benefits, pay, etc. Met Vanda Crook, V.P. & director of Operations, who asked for my log books and paper work. Have everything filled out before you get there and bring copies and originals of your drivers license, passport, DMV report, RTOP, social security card. Just makes it easier on themand yourself. after they reviewed my stuff in private i was taken to Vanda's office. Interviewed with her and the manager of Human Resources, Tammy Martin. Tammy pretty much said zero and seemed uninterested during the interview. The only thing she asked was whether I felt the few years i was a ramp rat in san diego helped me in terms of my carreer. Other than that it was all Vanda. Nice lady, very down to earth and good to laugh with. Vanda started off just asking simple stuff about how i got into flying. She basically asked all the usual HR questions (why do you want to work for CommutAir,what can you bring to CommutAir, etc.) but did so in a conversational manner. Then she said let's switch over to technical and jokingly said I better not faulter on weather questions since i got my degree in that field. Asked me about what is the first indication of Icing in the cockpit (without looking out the window). How would a wet runway change things for you. Then she had me read a TAF. Asked me what type of front is approaching (warm front). Then asked what this weather meant to me (bad day for flying...icing). what type of icing would you expect from this front (clear ice). read a metar- know how to decode the exact temperature readings. i.e. T00111032 = temperature is exactly +1.1C dewpoint is -3.2C. Asked what you need to go below DH (91.175). then she brought out an approach plate and a copy of part of a low alt enroute. You are over ROA vor and cleared for the ROA ILS rnwy 33 approach, walk me through the approach. did that and then I asked if the weather/vis warranted going missed- she said yes. did the missed and held. she then said i was cleared for the approach when i was on the outbound leg of the hold at MONAT. Then she asked if i had any questions. I brought a whole bunch to ask and we talked for about 15 minutes after. which i would highly recommend bringing questions to ask. I then was put back into the break room and waited. if you pass the face to face then they give you the computer test (cognitive skills). out of the 7 people interviewing that day only myself and one other went on to the computer test. do a search on "cognitive skills test" on this website and you will find the thread that I started showing how this test is set up. Unfortunately that test was the reason i did not get the job. My friend (the old check airman) said that when he asked about why i didn't get it they feel that this test is their substitution for a simulator eval. In the end it works out. comair has the same type of skills test. if youre fast enough to scan that 'game' then its generally felt that youll be fine in the cockpit. Vanda's a great lady. She knows what shes asking too....see she is still a pilot and occasionally does a leg on the 1900.
Well, I've got an interview on the 24th, I'm excited about that. Has anyone interviewed recently? I've got most of the information (avinterviews) but was curious to see what recent interviews were told about classes etc.
I interviewed last week. They told us to expect a call today (Friday 9/12) as to if we were in the 9/29 class. ......as I sit patiently by the phone.......They told us they did not know when the next class would be but expected another in several months. But then they said that they did not plan on doing the 9/29 class either and it was all driven by demand from CAL. Amy had mentioned that they were going to try to get a pool of at least 6-12 people to lighten the burden when they do have a need for a class in a hurry.
Overall a very pleasant experience for the interview. I interviewed with the Chief Pilot and Cindy and they made me feel right at home. No brain games or stupid stuff like that. Aviation Interviews is right on with the gouge. The cog test will make you feel stupid when you get out of the booth though.
I just got the call from CommutAir about an hour ago that I got the job!! Class is on the 29th.
I interviewed on Tuesday of this week. Anyone else that interviewed on Tuesday get a call yet? If so, PM me.
