yep this is it, what everyone wants here... and I have opened pandora's box...

WHAT REALLY SUXS ABOUT BEING A REGIONAL PILOT?

Allow me to give you some matches to light your rage...

Could it be the Cheif pilot
could it be the F/A
Could it be the pi$$ poor paycheck
or could it be scheduling or management...

As my Pappy used to say..."Let er Rip tatter chip"

Pay. $$$. Moola. Money. Cash.

NEED MORE.

What makes a Regional Airline job suck?

hmmm...

...lots of times it's the regional airline pilots that constantly gripe and complain about their jobs.

I always wonder why, since they dislike their job so much, they just don't pack it up and go work a McDonald's. Especially since much of the time you hear the statement, "I coul dbe making more flipping burgers at McDonald's than I can make at ABC Airlines!"

It gets really annyoing to us that actually enjoy our jobs.

That statement isn't to be taken literally, Spinn555.

It is just funny that a new hire FO makes about as much as a McDonald's shift leader...I know, avoiding buring yourself with grease required extensive OJT, a checkride on the grill and years of experience to ultimately get to a "manager" job. Not to mention a 6 month medical to ensure all that grease isn't going to your head.

Seriously, do you really think job satisfaction can cloud the fact that your credit card bills can not be paid, rent is strugglin and that "getting by" is acceptable until you can make captain? I don't think the passenger in seat 3B would appreciate that you delivered their pizza last night.

I really enjoy my job too, but da*m Spinn555.

Are there actually any pilots out there that run around pizza while at home? -I highly doubt it, but who knows?

I know what your trying to get across jumppilot.......

read some threads here, there are plenty of guys/gals doing pathetic jobs on the side to pay the bills...

what else are you going to do on 19k/year????

you will see soon enough.

that is, unless, you still live in mama's basement and have her drive you to the airport each morning, then she yanks you off her teet and sends you off to be that airline pilot you are!!

The pay is a problem, more than ever....guys were advancing quick a few years back and got through....but WTF is one to do making that kind of money for a few years straight??.....maybe deliver pizzas, wait tables, bartend, etc...

dont knock it.

Yeah, I actually know an FO at my regional, happens to live in my apartment complex, AND you guessed it, delivers pizza in his "spare" time. SAD, very SAD.

I supplement my income as a nude male model and Manwhore but I haven't made a dime yet. No one wants a hairy backed pot bellied balding model,SO if you have any leads.........

Jobear

Why work a second job.. Take your paycheck and put it all on one hand of blackjack.. You can't pay your bills as it is, so what's the risk??

Jump-pilot, you make very good points.

But what ever happened to living within your means? Is first year FO pay any surprise to you? Is this something you just discovered, or is it something that was well-known from your early days in flight training.

I'm at the bottom of my company's pay scale. I have found myself a budget that works.

The experiences that I have with complaining pilots, much of them are complaints that they brough upon themselves. No one forced them to buy high-priced homes, buy 2 new cars for them and their wife, and to have 2 kids. Those were all choices.

It just sometimes seems thatthey put a huge financial burden on themselves, then complain that the company will not pay them more to get out of it.

It all comes out positive in the end, I believe. Capitalism is a very positive force.

They're hiring for the next edition of "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance'."

phuuulleeezzeee...

live within your means????

How the F do you live withing your means on 15-20K/yr.

I know, you live with your parents.

Dont justify this!!!

very good point....but in a reserve Fo defense it is very difficult to find an extra job that will work with a reserve pilots schedule....except for the prestigious pizza delivery profession

Biting my tongue...

Alright, sorry... You guys know me, and I can't help myself...

Spinn555, you freak'n a$$puppet, what is your problem? You think it's that easy? I'll bet you couldn't guzzle enough when they offered you the whopping salary to be an "airline pilot". What's more, I'll bet you're one of those cap wearing C90 pogues from TAB, aren't you?
Dude, get a clue. You're nothing but poison for your bros when you promote crap quality of life.
Oh, and tell your mom to put cheese on your sandwiches from now on, otherwise the a$$whoop'ns on the playground will resume again...

Jason

Tab...no, not familiar with them

Just worked as a flight instructor for 3 years in a collegiate flight school. Tough days. 7 days a week, sun up to midnight. All year long.

Was hired, which then doubled my salary, for working half as much.

The reference to being taken off of my Mom's "teet" (I believe) as she makes my sandwich, would be very difficult right now considering she prematurely died this past December. So, I must give you thanks for bringing up rough memories.

"Don't assume. You make and A$$ out of U and ME
Living with my means. Wife and I own a house. Not a big house, but a nice one in a nice suburb. Mortgage payments are far less than rent here.

No, she's not financially supporting us. She's a school teacher, and our salaries are very similar; for now.

I've seen a lot of 19K a year references. Are they making 19K the whole time. No yearly increase? Most contracts that I've read have increases every year, such as mine. 20% increase for second year. Smaller increase in the years after that. Put in a captain slot in aboud 5-6 years....and by 10 years 70-80K. Not too bad.
<BUT SPINN555, YOU A$$, THAT IS STILL NOT ENOUGH!>

Tell me then, please. What will be "enough." What will creat happiness?

It's interesting that when a civilized debate is running on the boards, all-of-the-sudden vile attacks, assumptions, and slander is used to degrade people rather than spend the time to respectfully debate your case. Who knows, you may convert my thoughts if I find you to be credible, honest, and professional.

Last time I heard butt whoppin' layground threats was in the 3rd Grade. HA!

You must be new to the industry!!! I wish you Pollyanna thoughts forever!!

working sun-up till midnight instructing for 3 years??

slaving away 7 days a week???

and you have 1000TT?

then you say....

10 years to make 70K and thats "not bad"!!!!!!!!!

HERE'S THE FUTURE FOLKS -- THIS INDUSTRY IS FUKED....

:(

work rules suck far worse than pay. Management types suck too

G-200 is right on. I can't tell you all the 1000 hr dorks I meet out there telling me they are on their way to "the big show" and how gruelling their interview was at the regional du jour. Why would any executive at an airline, or any business for that matter, give someone a good paycheck when they have 3000 resumes from guys that will do it for half? It's freakin' disgusting, and it screws up the whole freakin' industry. If you take a regional job now I would think that you should understand it is gonna be a while before you are making the big bucks of old, if ever. There is alot of qualified homies out there. Why take the job then bitch about it. I couldn't afford to go to the regionals since I was 21, always made more than that in corporate. If these guys go work for that kind of cash I have little sympathy.
