The following memo from Dave Soaper, Vice President - Air Operations was sent to the Flight Operations Team:
Flight Operations is mailing recall letters today to 54 Comair pilots. This is to help the airline account for planned pilot attrition and prepare for an anticipated increase in aircraft utilization in the March-through-June timeframe, as well as the possible stabilization of our fleet. Although Comair still has some important work to complete in its restructuring efforts, the recent ratification of new pilot and mechanic agreements sent a clear signal that we are making significant progress to achieve competitive costs in line with today's environment. Please keep in mind the airline's survival and success still depend on completing all the necessary elements of our restructuring, and we continue to work toward this goal.

As you will recall we have been expecting the removal of 30 jets from our fleet as Delta and Comair seek to lower their aircraft ownership costs through the Chapter 11 process. The new pilot and mechanic agreements - combined with cost control initiatives already implemented in other areas of the company - give Comair a chance to minimize fleet losses and prepare for potential opportunities in the future. This requires us to increase pilot staffing accordingly to ensure we have sufficient coverage.
There is no question that starting a pilot recall so soon after implementing a reduction in force only adds to the unsettling nature of restructuring. We are grateful, however, that Delta is restoring some flight hours at Comair as so many employees make difficult sacrifices to help secure our future. At this point, the recall only pertains to pilots because of the unique circumstances involving training, attrition and cockpit staffing that affect our team and operational reliability.
Thank you to everyone for your continued professionalism and your efforts in running a great operation

Hopefully we can get everyone back soon, but at least this is a decent start.

Bombardier Announces CSeries Decision
Montreal, January 31, 2006
Resources shifted to regional jet and turboprop opportunities
CSeries efforts to continue with reduced team

Bombardier announced today that present market conditions do not justify the launch of the CSeries program at this time. The Corporation will now reorient CSeries project efforts, team and resources to regional jet and turboprop aircraft opportunities to address regional airlines’ future needs in the 80- to 100-seat aircraft market.

How many total furloughs were there at ComAir?

"Please keep in mind the airline's survival and success still depend on completing all the necessary elements of our restructuring, and we continue to work toward this goal. "

You can have the rest of the furloughees back...if you take another concession.

The current furlough list has 137 names on it. Some of the pilots were listed as active on the latest seniority list because they were extended through January.

Good deal, lots of good folks at Comair. I hope they get 'em all back soon.

Comair lost 11 planes during last year 12/05, and suppose to park additional 14 planes by Feb? Since the company is recalling pilots, does that mean company is not loosing any more planes?

No, just mean we have lost that many pilots. 90+ pilots have quit in the past two months.

See how that works. Take a concession... get aircraft. Now I want one Union hack to barge in here and say management is a bunch of liars and that is a BS argument... "pilots don't buy aircraft" my @ss

Ok genius, why didn't Comair get airplanes when they took their last concession?

Because Delta went bankrupt and forced Comair to go bankrupt. It's really not rocket science.

There is talks that we are going to gain aircrafts as well.

What kind? The 50 seaters are now "worthless" according to higher-ups due to the 70 seater being so much more economical. I have heard estimates of up to 400 of those 50 seates (nation wide) being parked this year alone.

I can promise you it will not be an aircraft with more than 70 seats on it.

DAL wants to run up to 200 78 seaters flown by the commuters. Simple fact this will not happen without a strike by mainline first. Fact of the matter now is that mainline pilots make LESS than a commuter guy based on the number of seats.

Six year comair FO makes $37hr for flying 50 people at at time.

Six year DAL 767-400 pilot makes $107hr for flying 288 people at at time.

So it makes sense to have mainline do the flying since DAL mainline is cheaper than you now. How messed up is that?

I guess if Mesa buys you and you are flying for somone else then you could fly as big as you want - but for your sakes, I hope you don't get bought out.

Yeah, but CMR MGT knew Delta was going to file, but they talked them into concessions anyway.

I left comair this month taking a 40 cet per hour pay hit (before concessions) now i am making more than a comar f/o and there is no way i am going back since my new gig is alot better suited to my life. Best of luck to all my boys who stuck it out, i am almost sure that 30-40 of the original furloughs have already taken other jobs so things may work out good for the remainers.

Can you give us some detail why are you not going back to Comair? Since you have been to both airlines, then can you tell us more about the bases, QOL, and future growth at AWAC vs. CMR? Thanks

Someone from crew planning called yesterday asking if I was going to take the call back or bypass. CMR is a great place to work at but not for $2400 a month second year pay. I wish all of you CMR guys and gals the best of luck but this time I have to say no. UBA757

Most promises are broken.

That's really funny. You will put Delta into Chapeter 7 to prevent an increase of 9 seats per ac in one type? If you all are that stupid, go for it. You don't have the cojones to strike. They know it, I know it and you know it.

How messed up is that?

Why don't you just tell us? You helped to create the mess so you should be experts on it.

I hope you don't get bought out.

Why are you people always wishing bad things for us? It would be great to get out of your mess.

Nope, they didn't talk us into anything. We both gambled and we lost that roll of the dice.

Eventually, the same thing would have happened in BK. Only the percentages of the cut would look higher. The bottom line would be the same.

Seems to me this is the shortest recalling I have ever seen. Does anyone know any future recalling plain during the next few months? Does anyone think will Comair bring everyone back before the summer?

I think it depends on a combination of how many aircraft we are going to still lose, the number of block hours we fly, and the amount of attrition. They might have to go deeper into the furlough list to get their 54 people as some may choose not to come back.

Not here...if we let go of the 78 seaters, what is next the 88s? Seems to me we "gave in" on the 70s and look where it got us. I guess it will not matter since according to JG "Comair is not part of our long term plan." I hope for the guys who work hard and do a great job at Comair will end up being owned by a better company.

You are sadly mistaken...perhaps you did not see the last vote breakdown. So exactly how much of a percentage in pay did you take? How long has it been imposed? It doesn't even compare to what we have given.

Why don't you just tell us? You helped to create the mess so you should be experts on it.

How did I help create the mess exactly? Work hard and do a good job - and now you blame this on us?

Why are you people always wishing bad things for us? It would be great to get out of your mess.

I don't wish bad things on other pilots. I do wish bad things on those who thought it was a good idea not to hire furloughed DAL pilots or "else." Sound like anyone you know?? Whoever it was over there who came up with that one has put a stigma on you that will come back to haunt you someday. Why did Capt. F. throw off one of our Captains off your flight? Why are you sueing DAL? Face it jack - you are causing all kinds of problems. Looking at your claimed total time 25k and still at a commuter I bet you are one of the guys who is making these stupid decisions. What sucks is that you are making others look stupid instead of just yourself. I bet it is your charming personality that has kept you from moving upward.

As a third year FO on withholding pay I was making more than $1 per seat per hour flying for Delta Connection flying the D328jet for $35.40 hour. That was nice while it lasted. Unfortunately Tom and Kerry killed ACA and I was out of work shortly there after. Good luck to all the boys and girls at Comair.
