Hey just heard that a Comair ramper was killed in DTW yesterday when a luggage loader crushed him against a CRJ. Does anyone know how it happened. That sucks.

ROMULUS: Luggage vehicle hits, kills airline employee
An airline employee was killed Sunday when a vehicle that transports luggage at Detroit Metro Airport struck him.
Eric Michniewicz, a customer service representative for Comair, was pronounced dead at Oakwood Hospital Annapolis Center.
Kate Moser, a spokeswoman for Comair, said the accident is under investigation.
The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. while Michniewicz was preparing to unload luggage from an arriving plane, Moser said.
Comair hired Michniewicz on Jan. 23, Moser said. No further details were available.

Its a good thing he didn't work for Pinnacle or we would have another 10 page bash fest on how much Pinnacle employees suck.

Wow glad you care about this poor person.

I'll be the first to say, Rest in Peace, and best to his family.

I don't care who he was, what type of person he was, or what company he worked for, he didn't deserve to go out like this and it's a terrible and unfortunate accident. RIP to him and my thoughts go out to his family, friends, and coworkers.

This should be a remider to all of us. The Ramp is a very dangerous place, keep your eyes moving around on the walkarounds. it could have been a f/o just as easy, all we do is look at the airplane not at the bag loader or lav truck heading out way. I my best wishes to him and his family....

I couldn't agree more. It's sort of ironic that you spend 5-6 weeks learning to fly a new aircraft to ATP standards in all types of screwed up situations, but it's the little things other than physicaly operating the aircraft that have the greatest potential to injure. How many times do you swing your flight kit over your seat and feel a little twinge in your back? How many times have you almost taken a header on an icey ramp in the dark? not to mention how many times you've been "almost" run over by a baggage cart, fuel truck, (insert anything on the ramp here).

I know a lav truck guy told me once "dang son, your pants are black like the ground, and your shirt is white like the airplane.....it's like they is trying to make you invisible"

I laughed at the time, but looking in a rearview mirror of a truck, he does have a point
