Is there any way to get an interview at Comair without having someone walk in your resume? I understand even that doesn't always work.

My time is very good, 3700 w/1200 multi, (all piston) and I fly part 135 every day! I live right here in Cincinnati and have gone to their office three times to speak to Sharon Jones the head recruiter. Every time she is unavailable. I have emailed my resume and a nice cover letter to her every month for a year and also fax it. Never a reply. Never a call.

The only negatives is that I have no degree and have never been a CFI.

I just don't get it. I think I am good Comair material and at least worth an interview.

Any suggestions?

As much as it pains me to promote helping Kit Darby pay his mortgage on his vacation home...a friend got an interview at Comair by attending the LAX AIR, Inc. job fair.

Cheers!

I heard that even w/ letter of rec from current comair pilot it takes two months to get an interview. I know of four specific examples of it taking at least two months. 900 resumes a day for 300 jobs over the next year and a half. Good luck.

Some one help me understand why a guy with his time and experience can't even get a call for an interview when Comair is hiring 300 pilots this year. I realize that the competition is very tough right now. I don't know of anyone lately that has been hired that hasn't been former 121 or military. However, I do know of several flight insructors they are bringing on board, and some of them don't even have 400 hours.

Yeah, yeah, I know they have the academy where you can buy an inteview for the one low instalment of your first three years salary, but the ones I'm talking about didn't come from there. It just dosn't make sense to me.

Oh yeah, I was going to second that about the Job fair deal. I heard thats the way to do it. A lot of the new hires I have talked to did it that way. Best of luck buddy,

You mean to tell me they have hired a cfi that is not academy pd. Not calling you a liar, but that shocks me. They have already hired this year, so there is only 150 more to come this year and 150 next year. At least that is the rumor going around. Only 8 CRJ700 next year and 3 planes that sky west was "borrowing" are coming here next year. At least for now.

Lance,

That was exactly my point. I'm not the best candidate out there but think with my time and the fact that I have been flying Part 135 every day for almost two years would at least warrant an interview, a call, a bowl of soup! Something!! :D

Did you attend the DCI (formally Comair) Aviation school? I think that helps.

I was hired in Jun '02 but:

1) My class had 3 CFI's (out of 10 new hires). 2 from the Academy, 1 from a pt 141 school in Minneapolis. Things change, but I don't think it's only "Academy guys need apply."

2) I had 3 LOR's and my buds walked my resume in multiple times with nary a call. I got my interview by spending 5 minutes talking with Sharon Jones at an AirInc conference in Dallas in Jan '02.

As much as it pains me to help out old Kit, face time with Sharon is the answer to your question. An AirInc seminar is the vehicle. Just make sure Comair is going to be there.

Comair has thousands of resumes stacked on HR's desks. Which do you think is a better way to get one into Sharon's hands - hand her one with your 2 minute "this is why I want to work at Comair" pitch, or hope she stumbles on the one you faxed in while she's looking for something to wipe up that spilled coffee?

Skid,

Thanks for the good advice. I realize seeing Sharon is the key and have been to her office three times with no luck. She's always in interviews or out of the office or unavailable for other reasons. I do not leave a resume with the front desk because I want to give it to her in person. People tell me I look and act the part so I'd like to meet her personally.

I need to make a vow to myself to go there once a week until I see her starting this Tuesday!!

The Key to a Comair Interview?

It seems that most of the people they're hiring now (exclusive of the academy) are prior part 121 pilots.

There are quite a few very experienced furloughed pilots from carriers such as US Airways, American Eagle, Sun Country, Vanguard, CCAir, TWA etc. who were willing to surrender their recall-rights in exchange for a career at Comair.

There also seem to be quite a few military including helicopter pilots.

I dont think there is a quick answer to your question, but persistance certainly doesnt hurt!

Don't underestimate the competition out there right now -- there are literally thousands of furloughed major airline pilots out there many of whome are very interested in pursuing a career with Comair.

Bummer

Hey guys, I had a friend walk my resume into Comair, I have close to 2500, 121 experience, etc. Sharon said no promises, she is looking at people with about 5000 hours only right now. Maybe the academy or if you really impress her at a job fair. Wait two years until the industry recovers, they'll be back to hiring at 1500 and 1. (I hope!)

Less than 400 hours?!? I don't believe it. I'm calling you on this one. Who are they?

Yes, it is true. They are from Mestern Michigan U. I know of two that are at Comair now, perhaps there is more, I don't know. The last two times I've flown to GRR, LAN (I can't remeber which one) we've had Chief Pilots and training department people on board. If I'm not mistaken I think they have invested in a CL-65 FTD.

i can concur, there is one in class right now with approx. 270 hrs of flight time...

The school I am currently instructing at has had our CL-65 FTD up and running now for 4 months. When will we get our shot at Comair??

;)

I stand corrected. I'm just a peon but it sure doesn't seem to make any sense to hire guys with 270 hours when there are thousands of applicants with 121 turbine time. There's nothing wrong with being low time but c'mon already. If you run out of high time applicants with PROVEN work experience then by all means give the FNG's a chance. Until then this policy makes no sense to me.
