Comair To Close MCO, GSO Crew Bases

After careful review and analysis of how best to align Comair's crew bases to support our current route structure, Comair has made the tough decision to close our Orlando (MCO) and Greensboro (GSO) crew bases.
"At this time, we anticipate the closures will begin no earlier than September 2007 and will officially close no later than December 2007," said Dave Soaper, Senior Vice President of Aircraft Operations, in a memo to all crewmembers.

mesa kicked out another regional from MCO....easy to do when you get paid 10k less and have only 8 days off a month.

At least that might get more people back to CVG

Sorry to the guys that are based there. I feel your pain (ex dfw based). Base closing sux. Hope they open a good one for yall somewhere. I

That sucks guys, sorry to hear it. GSO was a great base, like a country club. The C.P. was great and there were alot of cool people down there. I feel sorry for anyone who has to go back to CVG, that place is the most depressing town I have ever lived in.

I have lived in many places, but I agree CVG is the most depressing town.

Yeah, Ohio sucks. I'm not impressed so far. For real though, do they put something in the water around here?! Some kind of tard juice or something?

Sorry about GSO. Being a NC native and knowing the culture well, I assume that would have been a good one.

Milton Waddams: [talking on the phone] And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...

You know, I feel a lot like Milton right now.

Dave

MCO is a great base. All the people I've flown with have been very cool. It was more of a family/click than a base. After the bankruptcy payouts who staying on to commute to CVG/JFK?

I hear ya, unfortunately if someone burned the trailers down Soaper would come along and say this is a positive, we can now collect an insurance check and you guys can hang out in the rampers lounge.

Since MCO was just a virtual base, and I'm just a virtual FO (& former new CA), can I 'virtually' base myself in JFK instead of embracing the SUCK??

When we opened these 2 bases I was confused, when we kept them open this long I was even more confused.

Apparently, you gents have never lived in ATL. Sorry to hear that the Mesa-Chautauqua cancer has affected you too.

First of all - I posted that this was going to happen a month ago on here.

Second, the "cancer" was Comair in GSO - when Comair made this a base, GSO Chautauqua lost all its Delta flying. Bases open, bases close. We move - it sucks. Airlines start, airlines fail. Its the industry.. Its fun.. Yet it has its pitfalls.

Your use of the word "cancer" is insulting - these companies and the American form of government - capitalism - do business via free market forces.

Is it troubling that Delta is choosing the lowest bidder at the cost of quality and possibly safety - YES. Does it impact our lives - YES. That is what we chose and its risks when we became airline pilots. I think some people in America expect that everything to be entitled to them, everything is fairly distributed, everything is equal.. That is communism, not capitalism.

Quit referring to these companies as a CANCER. Your company is probably a cancer to many other people too. These companies are not evil..maybe the action of some its CEOs and board members are.. The vast majority of these companies employees are good, hard-working Americans.

BEST WISHES to our Comair brethern! We all sympathize with your situation.

Wow, I don't even know where to begin. Oh poor baby Comair came to GSO and took all your delta flying, well jackass all the delta flying use to belong to ASA Comair and Skywest so the fact the you even have airplanes in delta colors makes you the CANCER. (not to mention the colors of United, American, Frontier, Us Airways)

Why does it even bother you so much that people call Mesa and Chaquita whores or cancers. Obviously you know that your companies specialize in going in and undercutting every other airline. If you still work there, then you have accepted what you are and it shouldn't bother you anymore right??

I'll save the rest for the next BASH MESA thread. It will be along shortly.
