I was wondering about base stability. Mainly PQI any chance that base might go away. I know at one point they sometimes did the beech and others the saab.

Hiring has slowed at Colgan. We grew a ridiculous amount last year in picking up 2 new codshares (Continental and United). They have put a newhire class through recently, I believe. I think it was a Beech class. Not sure if there is a May class or not. Essentially, I think Colgan is catching its breath, but still looking to hire in 2006.

Bases are stable for the most part. I think JHW (Jamestown, NY) is closing soon. We were apparently underbid by Regions Air for the EAS. I have heard (before my time) that some bases will open and close on a whim.

About IAH- I think it's relatively easy to get as an FO. Once you upgrade, it may take a couple months to hold something there.

Hope that answers your questions.

I've been hearing lately that it looks like Jamestown closing isn't such a sure thing anymore...

As for hiring, I don't know about pilots but they'll need to hire one more FA for Manassas soon because I AM FINALLY OUT!!! I have truly enjoyed working with all of you Colganites, and no longer seeing your smiling faces every day is my only regret. ;) I wish you all the best, and hope that those of you I still know on here will keep in touch. Fly Safe!!!

Stop the insanity! Weren't you listening during indoc? You were given a gift from God when Colgan selected you to work for them, and you should treasure it always!

But remember: what the Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. So don't show up late, don't verbally abuse dispatchers or crew schedulers, don't get any TPs on your PCs, and never, ever, ever, hide porn in the Saab's secret porn hiding places.

Hello,
At the moment there is no growth...but lots of rumors of more codeshares, airplanes. bases, etc...This is typical of just about every regional and I take it all with a grain of salt. The latest new-hire class is in IOE at the moment and consisted of all 1900 F/Os. We also recently had a class of street captains for the Beech finish last month. Any hiring is going to be for attrition.
The only base closure that I am aware of is Jamestown NY, but I've also heard that Norfolk might see reduced flying because of Air Wisconsin operating those flights with a jet. Heard some word of Lynchburg and Greensboro for UAX, but no official word from anyone in management. I'd like to see them pick-up more of the UAL stuff out of IAD, because I live in Virginia.
I've heard that they are looking at out-basing in the CO operation out of IAH to reduce costs, and I think that is going to happen. It's like three different companies and you don't see or hear from those people unless you knew them prior to going down there. One of my old CA that I flew with down there say's he really likes it in IAH and that CO runs a good operation. Compared to the US/UAX it is probably night and day. Anyone thats been thru the "G" gates in IAD knows what I'm talking about. However, they are moving all of that to the "A" gates (Indy Air's former gates) and hopefully things will improve markedly there.
I don't know a whole lot about the SAAB operation, but they will continue to upgrade and transition, but at a slower pace. On the Beech side it is the same story...once again at a slower pace. "Hopefully", now that things have slowed down a bit we can concentrate on improving the processes and operations within the company. I'm cautiously optimistic about that and time will tell if managment really has a strategic plan for the future or is just flying by the seat of their pants.
Overall, Colgan has been a good place to work for me and I enjoy flying the Beech (a MUCH better airplane than the Swedish Love Machine I might add :) ) A final coal to add to the rumor fire...Speaking to one of the mechanics in IAD...They are saying DASH-8s...
