Hello,
HEF is also a large SAAB crew base, and as you mentioned also a maint. base and corporate headquarters. I can't see a problem commuting into DCA or IAD if you are based somewhere else. It might not be a one-leg, but there are a lot of mainline/express flights into DCA and a few into IAD. You also have the jumpseat open on many carriers.
As the Godfather said, most of the hiring is in the SAAB and this is also where the growth is going to be as well. Beech hiring is only going to be for attrition/upgrade and transitions. There is probably going to be a new hire Beech class in the next few months, but it will probably be a small class. We are pretty well manned with Beech F/Os for the time being.
There was a memo posted last summer about CoEx wanting to outsource some turboprop flying (15-20 aircraft) in the northeast, and so far no further word on that. This latest development at CoEx could be an indication that some of those ERJs may be parked in lieu of turboprop bids. CoEx also expressed no desire to return to the turboprop market. Commutair might put in a bid on this flying, and possibly Regions. Colgan? who knows...I think that the turboprop is going to make a return to many markets in the northeast especially and I don't think that CJC wants to be on the outside looking in at a major part of that marketshare.
Please don't think that I feel anything "good" about the recent turn of events in the industry because it may benefit myself or my employer. Any pilots out on the street or airlines goingabnkrupt is BAD for everyone. But, the reality is that turboprops are cheaper all the way across the board and will have greater leverage in the marketplace than say 10 years ago when the RJ "revolution" began.
