Before I even ask the question I have done the search and this topic has come up a number if times I know. I'll do you all the favor and agree that a contract is signed for a reason and anyone that does not fulfill there obligation is a horrible person whose kids are probably going to die of cancer and they will be blackballed from any flying they ever want to do.
Now that being said, I was wondering if there is anyone on here who has actually gone through the process? The lawyers letters, court, or negotiating some sort of payments. Someone with first or second hand experience would be great. Please no one that new a guy, that new a guy, who's sister dated a guy that something happened to. I have read a lot of good speculation and even a good post by someone that spoke with a lawyer in VA. What I'd like is some real infomation. If you could enlighten me to your experiences it would be greatly appreciated. And again, you do not have to enlighten me on how I have no morals and how I'm going to go to hell. Thanks in advance for the info.

My buddy left Colgan after 6 or 7 months and was sued. They sent him a letter or two asking for the money and then filed the suit.

This was within the past 3 or 4 months.

I signed a training contract at Colgan back pre 9/11. I had every intention of staying there for a year to build my 1000 PIC turbine (I was hired as a street captain). I finished IOE, then two days as a captain, and was furloughed after 9/11. I accepted a position flying a CJ and resigned from Colgan. They did not hold me to the training contract.

That is first-hand experience. At the time I really wished I could have gone back, but, in hindsight, getting furloughed was the best thing that ever happened to me.

I left after about 9 months. They DID come after me and I DID pay money. You never want to burn bridges and you might be able to work some kind of deal on the amount you owe.

Dont think your a horrible person and I hope you kids don't die of cancer.
However whether they draw suit against you or not, it is definetly burning a bridge and this industry is smaller then most people think. Colgan may not be the greatest, but it'll definetly get you the flight time.

I think there was a provision that says if you're furloughed, the training contract becomes void.

I know that some have done payment plans like $50.00 per month to satisfy the lawyer letters. As far as I know that works.

In 2002 there were a bunch of guys that got hired from "CC Air" six months later they were recalled to MESA so they left. They all were held to the contract. Some paid others let the chase begin.

I know 2 guys that recieved court dates for Feb. I don't know the outcome they were at CJ for 6-7 months
