Colgan, Regions Air, or CommutAir?

Say a disgruntled, downtrodden, downgraded Saab guy at Mesaba wanted to get 700 hours pic turbine as soon as possible. Which of the airlines in the title would be the best to go with? My crystal ball has been deferred and maintenance has been outsourced.

the best of the three would be Colgan. I think they pay better and have more options since they fly almost 50 Saabs and a dozen 1900's. Regions starting Saab ops they might hire a street captain. I dont think anyone there has Saab time. I believe it was a Jetstream operation for American out of St Louis. I never heard one good thing about Commutair from anyone who works or worked there. I dont know the upgrade times at the other two but at Colgan the Beech is probably a year and the Saab 18 months currently.

Gulfstream (yes, PFT Gulfstream) has been hiring straight into the left seat recently. However, the CA thing is not PFT. Get some be1900 PIC time and get on with your career.

Dude, you lookin' to jump ship also???

As quick as I can, TAH. New propaganda from the company claims the AVROS will definitely be gone by November (meaning my furlough), and prior to that, the imposition of the company's new term sheet by August 1. Granted, a strike at that point will do the company in anyway. With almost 6000 TT, it's time for some PIC T and a new job... I always thought that street captain thing was not quite "fair", but I'm now re-evaluating my opinion. Who'd of ever thought Mesaba would go this way?

Why not just apply to MESA for a Dash-8 street captain gig out of JFK? If money isn't a big factor (judging by the list of airlines you put in your post it shouldn't be) then a Dash is probably the best choice no??

Thanks guys.

If MESA can be trusted to really give you a street CA slot, that would be the way to go. At least they are getting their raises. At Regions you would go to the bottom of a seniority list the top half of which hasn't been moving so rapidly, lots of Jetstream folks and all of the new saab fo's senior to you and only two saabs on line (sort of on line, that is) and entering the 5th year of
a frozen and seriously substandard payscale-to say nothing of the abusive former express one HR (read exploitation) department.

There are some fine people there in the trenches and the training/FLT Ops
departments but I couldn't recommend the place for someone with your experience.

'Nuff said.

How sad. MEsabi, I'm assuming that you're one of those 6 year FO's that finally got to upgrade for a couple of months and then got kicked back to the right seat. How pathetic that you guys are now facing possible furlough!

Who would have thought that instructing was the most stable job I ever had!

What a shame, last summer the 5 year (then) fo's finally getting a chance to upgrade, new hires ariving at more than 2-3 at a time. Now all those new hires gone...many never to return, the upgrades now 6+ year fo's looking at a furlough by the end of the year (if not sooner) Many of the "lifer" 10-15 year captains jumping to Fed Ex, Southwest, Jet Blue, ect. (not that I think that really is a bad thing) and honestly at this point I kinda think the best thing would be to have the expidited 1113 in the company's "favor" and just strike the doors permantly closed. :( At least that would set a tone for the next time management decides to solve it's bad managing by first attacking the people that are the company.
Who would have thought things would have turned this much this quick.

I think I saw Colgan was hiring street CAs on a recent ad on climbto350.com. Gulfstream also hires 1900 CAs down in Flordia.

Good luck!

Yep, I'm one of those guys. But I'm by no means the only one. Many of our pilots have been up and downgraded in addition to being displaced into different bases and aircraft types. Life's been "easy" for me living in base the whole time and without a family to support. I'm back to being bitter about Great Lakes not hiring me 6 years ago! Thanks for the support and info guys.
