I have a few questions for you Colgan guys and girls...
I am interested in Colgan mainly for the NE runs, and I hear there is a good chance of being home every night.

When I looked at the website, it seemed like they had A LOT of crew bases. Are they accurate bases? If not, what are Colgan's bases? How hard is it to get LGA? Is it a junior base? I heard they are looking to close LGA? What are other junior bases?

Thanks

colgan

I just left the company and as of 2 weeks ago LGA was not a base or was closing in the very near future. Yes, there are that many bases and they open and close almost daily. I know they are doing a ton of hiring for the Texas flying and will probably need to fill slots in the NE for people leaving to go down there. You will usually be home every night. Good if you have a family, bad if your looking for Per Diem, not gonna get any. Great place to go and build some hours. I wouldn't want to be there too long. Mx is a little bit of a mess, I would usually lose about 10 hours of block per month to MX. That hurts when your not getting paid for it. Good luck hope you like it there if you go.

Mike

Dittos on what Mike said. LGA is OFFICIALLY CLOSED. ABE is opening up Feb. There will be lots of openings in the NE as several peeps are going to TX both senior and jr. Colgan's biggest problem right now is MAINTENANCE....other than that...great crews

"ABE is opening up Feb."

Wonderful, I'm sure the old Penn/Suburban/Allegheny guys will love to hear that.

No offence to any Colgan guys I have several friends there, just venting.

Lear, acoording to the Feb pairings, CHQ is doing PHL-ABE now. And PHL-SCE. Sorry man.

MDA does PHL-ABE-PHL in the 170. At ALG it was blocked between 26 and 36 minutes (Depending on the time of day) for the Dash 8. It's block for 42 or 46 in the 170. Go figure.

91,

Got an email from your ol roomate. Seems that one is up to the "same old thing" again. Phones shut off, chased by bill collectors and on the run. Nothing ever changes.

Yeah, doesn't surprise me. Where's she at now? I still have that bed of hers, but I'm starting to think I'll never use it and I might try to get rid of it. It was an interesting summer, I had nothing to lose as long as she didn't burn my place down. And I wonder what ever happened to the rest of her stuff that we carted off to the SYR crew room when they cleaned it out last November. And that stupid chair!

Welcome to Texas Colgan Air!

Sincerely,

Copenhagen

I thought it was going to be the ice queen...

Don't you still get paid the 75 hour guarantee? Do you guys get per diem while you fly the day trips? We get it at Eagle but it's taxable.

Yes, you still get your 75 hr guarantee, but when your schedule says you should be getting paid for 85-90 hrs the 10 hour of MX cancellations make a big dent.

Concur on the crews -- however mx has been their problem as long as I know (early 2000).

For those of you with all of the MX losses, are you flying the Beech or the Saab? Since I've been a Saab driver I really haven't had many problems. Maybe my I have just been lucky. As for the MX in general at Colgan HYA sucks, I haven't delt with HEF MX much so the jury is still out on them, but ALB is excellent. Lonni Colozzo's crew has been great over the last 2 years in both the Beech and the Saab. I was told the other day that the IAH mx facility will follow in Albany's footsteps, an excellent manager with top mechanics.

The manager in IAH Is new to the company (2 weeks I think). Top mechanics, think again they are straight out of A&P school.Colgan bit off more then they can chew.

I sense some tension

And how would you know? You probably would have said the same thing 2 years ago when we hired a bunch of Eagle mechanics in ALB. I'll take the word of people who know the truth, thanks!

No tension here. I don't care. Those are just the facts.

MELIT You are wrong again.

The Best medicine for an idiot is to ignore him...but not this time

As for your top notch guess on the IAH MX crews...

First off...the Feds won't let that happen...
Second...there will be 6-10 experienced MX guys going to IAH for the first 6 months down there on a rotational basis until the new hires are trained.
Not all the new-hire Mechanics are fresh out of A/P school. Not all the new hire mechanics will end up in IAH either. Colgan just hired some experienced furloughed mechanics from a couple of major carriers. All the experienced Colgan Mechanics going to IAH have been here for a while and know the planes very well.

Third...The new hire A/Ps must go to Manassas for at least 3-5 weeks Mandatory Saab Systems Training as per FAR 121 then 60-90 days supervisory hands on training before they are signed off. Another requirement which all 121 Carriers must do, just like the Pilots.

Don't you know that. Aren't you an A&P? Guess not.

You are just an idiot....SO JUST SHUT UP!

From now on, I'm ignoring your pitty comments. I hope everyone else will too.

Don't get your thong in a bunch. So they go get 3 weeks training, now i feel better. In another thread you stated your mx is the biggest problem with Colgan, now I agree with you and you cry foul? Who are you Mr.Double talk?

MELIT,

In case you haven't noticed maintenance is the major issue at ALL airlines, and not just Colgan. Maintenance requirements under FAR 121 create a very high fixed cost structure. Lastly, if you have any clue about what you are saying yo u will also realize that maintenance/engineering has been a major player in fatal mishaps at more than one "legacy/major" airline. ex: AA DC-10 ORD and AS MD-80 Ventura, CA are examples. In fact, American Airlines and their faulty QEC procedures did more to ruin McDonald Douglas Comercial Aircraft Division than Airbus Industrie did with their government subsidized pricing.
Look, I respect anyone that has a coherent opinion about this industry, but to sit there and make these asinine comments isn't proving a thing except your ignorance. Like I said in another thread Colgan isn't perfect, but we have alot of good people that do work hard to do a good job. Not everyone starts out in the airline industry with 10 years of air carrier maintenance epxerience. If an airplane is unairworthy it's up to the crew to say so. Worked for me in the Navy everytime and you might catch some grief for it, but so be it. And, likely you'll be praised for it later by making a good decision. You cannot as a PIC let emotions of the moment get in the way of making a sound decision based on the facts.

Hello,

Colgan offers health, dental, vision, life insurance and free travel on USAirways (no service charges). Benefits are typical for the industry and I am pleased with the health/dental. Benefits begin within 30 days of employment, which is a big plus if you have a young family like myself. PM me if you have any other questions.

Regards,
