Whats up with street captains in the Q at Colgan? Are they not getting bidders from the Saab and the Beech or are they not allowing captains to jump(seat locks, new training contract??). I would have thought for the Beech and Saab captains a little extra dough and some glass/FMS time for the resume would have been attractive, even if it did mean EWR.

What are the schedules like out of curiosity?

SHUT YOUR MONTH!!!

mostly seat locks, then just people who don't want to go to the Q for different reasons..we don't really have that many pilots total...so adding 15 airplanes saps alot of the captains.

Umm.. I wasn't complaining.. nobody ever gave a single piece of worthwhile info on that other thread... so I thought I would try again.

As several people I fly with are considering the move I was just curious what the deal is..

but excuse me for asking and disturbing your day..

Well for the sake of us who would truly like some info on this subject I respectfully ask that the moderators give this thread a chance to have some real replies before they lock it...

thanks,
cale

About to get locked for a second time.....Classic.
So, that would lead a person to believe that there is NO information on this board for colgan Q400 street captains. Guess everyone should stop asking.

Who cares about glass time??? The majors ain't getting pilots from FBO's because the CFI has G1000 time...

All I hear about the colgan 400's is that they keep busting speed restrictions and the guys have the Feds breathing down their necks.

Anyone fly on them yet???? thing more than half full, EWR-BWI??????????????

I think there have only been 2 or 3 ppl yelled at by the feds for breaking 250 below 10. THe feds are all over it because it's a new type and still going through its growing pains. Most beech and saab pilots won't bid the q400 because of:
1. the pay
2. until recently we had no commuter clause
3. Seat locks
4. the majority of them are based in EWR

THings will be getting better for the q400 eventually. We will be getting more of them after this initial 15. Some ppl think they will go to IAH. I think some of them will go to UAL out of IAD or DEN. THe pay will get better when we either vote in a union this summer, or merge senority lists with pncl. Either of those things will get the pay up on the plane.

When is the union drive going to start?

And to follow up, what on earth makes you think things will improve if you merge lists with PCL????

I wish you guys the best, but I think you're in for a helluva long road judging by what our friends at 9E are going through.

I think we are eligible to vote again in Aug, since its been one year. I haven't heard anything from alpa or any other union though. One thing you do hear this year unlike last year is a bunch of pissed off crews salivating at a redemption vote. If mgmt was trying to stave off another union vote this year, they sure haven't done a good job. This pilot group is fired up and pissed off.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but VMO is 242 like all the other DHC-8 models.

the Q400 is fast, somewhere around 350kts max cruising speed, I ve personally heard them breaking the 250kt rule over the radio...funny stuff. They are hiring street guys because they are rapidly expanding, and they wont let eligilable captains on the beech and saab transition in an attempt to contain training costs. only time will tell if they can hire enough off the street to fill the gaps, there has been talk of releasing the seat lock.
