Congrats to the people over there. I'd hate to do a repo flight from Houston to Manassas in a Saab. That will keep write-ups under control.

I heard from a friend at the FAA that Colgan has had 3 in flight engine failures/shutdowns in the last few weeks.. What's going on with that?

I also hear that a day doesn't go bye in Manassas that the feds aren't there... That can't be good!

Good luck with the Houston thing...

I still don't understand why the Saab's can't do the EAS stuff. If I remember correctly, Part 139 actually says the airplane has to be designed for 30 or fewer seats. Rip some seats out and change the design, big difference from certified.

Guess it's a moot point though if they are all going to Houston.

so when they made the announcement about the houston flying, did they say anything about the saab 2000s? i just checked in for reserve and crew scheduling said that from the way they've been talking around the office, it's definitely on the table...

here at OO, the vp today said that Colgan also bid on some 50 seat prop flying, which is y ya'all won the contract. ATR's? Dash 8-300's?? Saab 2000's????

Good luck to all, if u hire our people in TX, u are getting real quality people!!!

where are the Saabs coming from?AE?

Get A Hobby!!!!!!!!

Randy,

Can I ask a question? Why do you care? I know for a fact you are a good person and a great stick but why do you care whatr goes on at Colgan? Get a hobby. Learn to fish something. The sh@#$$ you spread on this sight is to much. Just let it go. You made it to the big time at Comair now just leave dude. You have know idea at all what is going on but you still chime in like you were talking to mary everyday. COMIAR DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING GOING ON TO TALK ABOUT?????

Looks like we are gonna start off with Saab 340Bs for Continental in IAH beginning March 3. Word from the Kremlin in Manassas is that the CO deal is a 5 year contract with 10 Saab 340Bs online in TX by June.

USAirways Express operation will continue bidness as usual. With some more Beeches going back to Raytheon and being replaced by more Saab 340Bs. 210CJ is the last C model Beech on line and will be taken off at the end of Feb 05. Colgan will be down to 10 Beech 1900Ds 19 Saab 340Bs in March. No "A" model Saabs coming either. Too much $$ involved in differences training and the Maintenance would be a nightmare, worse than what it is now.

No Delta or United Stuff. No Dash 8-300 or ATR72s either. Colgan is exprloring the possibility of bringing Saab 2000s over in 2006 for the CO deal but nothing in stone. Saab 2000s need to be FAA 121 certified first which will take at least a year and it's already in the works.

I'll post more on this in another thread..

Correct me if i'm wrong please, but didn't Pro-air operate 2 or 3 back in like 98 or so? I know that the planes came from GM.

BTW, when are Tony and Carm gonna be back? I need my Sopranos fix, NOW

Hey Tony,

Nice to see you back on the board. What happened to that FAA gig?

Are you going to head down to IAH? Could be fun!

How many Saab 2000s are actually out there? I didn't think they made very many of them. Sweet airplane though!!!

Great to be back

There are 63 Saab 2000s on the planet. Only 3 made it to the US. Those 3 planes belong to General Motors or Ford. they leased them out one time to ProAir in DTW but they folded. Now 2 of them are leased out to Hendrick Motorsports for the Nascar Team out of Concord NC. The other Saab 2000 is in Canada doing Corporate Shuttles with GM or Ford Canada Division. The other 60 Saabs are in Sweden or Europe mostly collectin dust right now.

Fed job...still waiting for the call....better hurry I'm gettin ancie!!

I may go to IAH if the 2000s come on line, but I'm staying in Manasty for now til the Spring. Hockey season's on and I'm having a career season in No check league. My team needs me.

On a differnt not does anybody know what the differnces are between the 340 and 2000, besides the seats? sorry I am not one of those spend all my free time learning about planes guys

I was onboard for a 2000 demo flight that Saab did for a regional airline here in the states back '95 or '96. The airplane was a Crossair aircraft if I recall correctly. I didn't get to fly it, but the plane was pretty comfortable however the highly-touted active noise reduction system in the cabin had almost no effect in my opinion. I did some performance and flight planning work on the 2000 as part of that effort. The plane really did well in a lot of respects - good fuel burn, speedy for a turboprop and good short-field performance. But the nail in the coffin was that the engines were turboprops and at that time, "everyone" wanted regional jets and the carrier passed on the 2000. And that sales failure was said to be the end of the Saab 2000 in North America, at least from an airline standpoint.

From someone who flies a 340, the big difference is...

The 2000 has more than twice as much HP on each engine than a 340, even a B model, has on BOTH engines combined.

Over 50kts TAS faster in cruise, higher ceiling, and nearly twice the theoretical pax capacity than an A-model. All glass... FADEC...

Jeez, I'd love to drive one of those.
