I'm with SNAAB....I don't even fly the Swedish meatball....and yet I see it everyday. Soon, I'll be working with 'em! I'm scared...here's why:

1.) Now, I won't mind having to deal with some 18 year old white trash-all- made-up-like-an-Apache-Warrior-during-a-rain-dance...but the skank factor does have to be controlled.
2.) The age thing is a definite concern...I mean, really, I don't carry an extra set of Depends in my flight kit.....what'll we do if there's a problem and the Lav is MEL'd?

You guys are funny!!!

Go fly PQI-BOS in a 1900 for a few years and all your bathroom worries will go away. Just make sure your O2 mask works well!!

Colgan guys,

Anyone able to tell me if Colgan types their newhires during initial training (assuming a newhire that is qualified) or do they hold the "type" for the Capt. upgrade training?? And, about how many paid hours per month do most get?

Sorry if I didn't find an appropriate thread. This one just seems active and I'm hoping for a quick response.

Thanks, AV8N4Fun

Try starting your own thread, it's more fun.

No type until upgrade checkride. Hours depend on the station and line... as if you didn't see that coming. At Colgan, you can fly 100hrs a month if you bid a reserve line and selectively pick up open time... If I were to guess the average paid hours-per-month, I'd guess 82.5 hours per month per pilot. Just a guess.

Thanks ShyFlyGuy,

I assume they do not hire direct entry Captains either, do they?

Reading through the post, someone commented about a training contract. Colgan doesn't do that , do they?

High-tech indeed...
Last night in PIT, one of your FOs was doing a preflight with one of those camping/caving flashlights that wrap around your head...

And one of your mechanics ended up with a drill bit in his eye in HPN last night. Maybe he could of used that caving flashlight?

AV8,

They do hire street-captains if you are typed and have previous 121 PIC experience in the 1900 or Saab. I don't think they're hiring much into the Saab from the steet (CAs), but they're hurting for 1900 CAs.

They do have a training contract. It's 12 months for FOs and 6 months for CAs. I have yet to hear of them inforcing it, and if you leave them on good terms (2 weeks notice without much anamosity), they have yet to pursue it in a situation like that. It seems to be a little like an "F-You" insurance policy. You F-them, and they'll F-you. Otherwise, it's pretty peaceful over there.

Hope that helps.

P.S. Start another thread, if you have more questions. A lot of Colgan kids are tired of this thread, since it started as a joke to begin with, you're not going to get many serious responses. Also, use the search feature on the toolbar across the top of this screen to find more information about Colgan. You'll be swamped. Look forward to hearing more from you.
