Just heard from a reliable source in the training department that they will be installing electronic flight bags in all the Q400's--- and who says that we need a union.
They have been talking about the electronic flight bag at PCL for years now. Don't hold your breath though. Its all just a tactic to keep you believing that they are working for you.
Why would Colgan need an EFB? How many airports do you fly to? I'm imagine it's under 75. If I were one of you guys I'd rather carry the 4lbs of plates around and take the extra cash...I can see it now, "We'll pay you $53/hr, BUT the a/c will have...ELECTRONIC FLIGHT KIT." Pilots, "SWEEET!"
Someone will have to pay for the research, implementation, acquisition and mx to keep EFB's working... if your hourly rate on the Q400 is suspect. Inquire, if EFB is any where in the response..... that might be an indicator as to who is paying for it.....
The way these companies run, i think that they will get EFB's if it will create efficiencies for them. if they are not a necessary item and they raise the cost i am sure they won't get them.
that being said, if they create efficiencies, we shouldn't to need concede anything on the pay rate to get them.
If they argue concessions because they install EFBs in the "Q" then they can kiss my hairy bean bag! I've been flying the Beech in the northeast for nearly three years without one into some of the most demanding airports we fly into. I don't need or want the friggin thing under those circumstances.
Will it have Windows Vista? Then 4 sure we will be SCREWED! "Gee my laptop will not boot up can we MEL it?" "Yes, but first you need to turn you laptop on and find the MEL number!"
