bskin,

I hardly think it's fair to say dispatch put someone in a bad position by releasing a pilot to fly a "c" model. If the aircraft has been signed off as airworthy, how is a dispatcher supposed to be responsible for that...don't you do a preflight and post flight inspection...you'd know better than we would if the a/c was airworthy. Just thought I'd start a new thread with this one, since the one you made the comment on was getting soooo long. No hard feelings though, some of us really do bust our butts down here and really do try to do the right thing. Good Luck to ya!!

I don't often disagree with people on this board, but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one.

I don't know who you are or how long you've been working in that crap hole, but you guys lie just as much as anyone in that company.. There was only one dispatcher in that place (MD) that would look out for us. Everyone else was looking out for completion factor.

Regs would get interpreted one way when it benefited the company, and then another way when it didn't.

I can't tell you how many times I heard "The radar looks clear to me" to only end up heading towards a level 4 storm.

Hey dispatcher, I have LVF today with no flaps.. Runway 18 is the only runway in LEB we can use today. Do I have the numbers to go there?? Sure you do was always the answer.

If you want more detail, I'll be glad to pull out the PDA and note date, time, and dispatcher with every lie and broken reg over my 3 years.

I have been in this crap hole a little while, and don't disagree with you on that, but how can we interpret the regs differently, we have the same FLOPP in front of us that you do. And it doesn't benefit my family much to send you guys into icing with a no icing MEL, like DR likes us to do, and risk my license, now does it? we get our arms twisted just as much as you guys do, but not all of us are going to push a pilot to do something that endangers our future for this company.

Red six,

It's unfair of me to lump just about everyone in the same group, but my experience tells me that many in that office disregard many things.

I can't count the times I was flying BOS-PQI in the winter and the required ALT wasn't there. A quick look at the payload told me why. When I call and they know why I'm calling, it tells me it was done for a reason.

The list goes on and on...

"I have been their for you guys during the good times and the bad, i have taken the punishment on a daily basis. Left seat, right seat...it doesn't matter, they are both full of farts. No one even lifts a finger to get some Febreeze! Not to mention the LONE RED CUSHION. You think it doesn't hurt???? It's bullsh1t!!!!! Undaunted, I keep going. Oh yeah.....go on and keep bashing me! One of these days i am gonna come down on you all like hard rain. This RJ thing is just a FAD, JUST A FAD!"

sincerely,

N32017 (LVS)

If C models could only talk............

(Note..When I start to hear airplanes voices in my head, it really is time to move on:)

chperplt,

I might give myself away here, but don't really care. I have been in and out of here since 1998. I can't speak for anyone else in this office, but I have never sent anyone into a TS or failed to give runway data....what pilot would just go ahead and takeoff for somewhere if they don't have to proper data. I have run many spaghetti charts for the c model in my time (just did it yesterday) so, don't lump us all into the same category. Yes, I would have to agree that MD does look out for everyone too...she's a good dispatcher. I'm sorry to hear that some of you feel so mistreated by Colgan, cause they as a company and the people have been good to me. It's all a game of give and take and I know lots of people out there who weren't willing to give even a little, so what do you expect?

colgan dispatcher

I think the dispatcher try there best but when you have a prick like
DR in charge . He will send in 1900c to krut with no flaps and 13 pax on board . Then tell you it safe and if you don't like it you will be talking to diry pack of cgarettes . even thought there is no runway data for no flap landing that and the charts says say you can't .

If my guess is right, you mentored MD. Yes you are one of the good ones. Just request next time you have a beef, or think you have a beef, don't start a new thread addressing that person, keep it in the one at hand, unless it's really called for -- some of us f'd up and weren't too imaginative with the sign on (soon to be corrected though, I will be the artist formerly known as bskin). You also have some valid points. I, as I'm sure you know, was also able to return to CJC easily. For that I am grateful. However, you must know that some problems exist, as previously stated, and they start with DR, or whoever pulls his strings, and goes to scheduling -- which is probably the greatest problem they have. I've seen too many guys that were probably a couple of months away from upgrade bail. For some the reasoning was there, for others, it was simply to get away from our schedulers. And, that's too bad. I know they try, but it's getting too big to keep it Mom & Pop. The value of having a schedule given to you at the beginning of the month and being able to plan around it is huge. For too many, it gets completely changed around, and that is crap. The only way for this to be corrected is to have every new hire come in and be put on reserve, to cover problems that arise. But realistically, that won't do it, they have to let the pilots become uni*edit*! I'd like to see how many other airlines with 200+ pilots aren't! Well, enough rambling, fat chance that'll happen so they'll keep going through cycles.

Aaargh, is it the Captain or still JD, Jetops -- valid points though.

bskin,

point well taken!! I'm sure there isn't one perfect airline out there, but I guess I'm just luck enough not to have to deal with all the schedule changes. The sad thing is that with soooo many coming and going, they would love to bring in the new guys and put them right on reserve lines to cover all the little things that pop up, but not realistic with the turnover. Just seems like a vicious (sp) cycle. I'll get off my highhorse and get back to business. Good Luck at citrus and if you run into Moneypenny, Conover, Tarpley and anyone else I can remember from back in the day, tell 'em hi from Lima Alpha.....there now does that confirm your suspicions?

....what pilot would just go ahead and takeoff for somewhere if they don't have to proper data.

I can think of a few at Colgan that have and would, but that's a different thread.

I know there are a few of you that do a great job in a bad environment. I think I know who you are, and I'm sure you either know who I am or can easily find out. If you don't know, PM me and I'll tell you. I don't hide behind my user name.

My point with your quote above is that we as pilots only have you, the dispatcher, to guide us with the proper data. I can't go to a computer in Boston and pull up the current radar. I have to rely on getting good solid info from my dispatcher. In three years of flying, I have only twice been held on the ground for enroute weather. Both times my dispatcher was MD. I've called down there and asked about the storm I saw on my way in to BOS. The storm that was between the airport and my next destination. I was told the radar was clear. Hmm.. I can see the lightening and rain from the ground, but the radar is clear.

It's all a game of give and take and I know lots of people out there who weren't willing to give even a little, so what do you expect?

I have to disagree with you there. There is no give and take in this job. You dispatch me within a set of regulations and I fly an airplane within a set of regulations as well. If we have an MEL, we have to comply with that MEL.

You can't tell me it's ok to fly a BOS-RKD-AUG-BOS trip with thunderstorms in the forecast with the radar MELd, but then tell me I can't fly back to PQI with that same MEL because there are TS in the forecast.

As a dispatcher I expect you to be honest with me. If you tell me it's safe to depart, I should be able to assume it's safe to depart. If it's safe to depart and we're legal to depart, I'm going to depart. It seems pretty black and white to me.. Not much gray area to play with. If the airplane can be flown safely within the regulations, I will be taking that flight out. You shouldn't be enticing me to get the flight out, nor should I be trying to keep the flight on the ground.

Again, I realize that not everyone that works, or has worked in that office is a bad dispatcher or tries to bend or break the rules. I also understand that the devil himself runs that office with fear and intimidation. I think after the second time I called him a F-K-N-G weasel and hung up on him, he stopped putting my calls on speaker phone. :D

Is MD still rooming with JA? If so and you figure out who I am, say hi to both of them for me. I flew with JA quite a bit when she first upgraded.

EDIT--- I knew you, but I don't think you knew me.. I'm sure you've heard of me though.. I'm really not as bad as most in that office thought!

The give and take I was refering to was the comment from bskin about the scheduling issues. I know there is no give and take when it comes to the regs. Sorry if I gave you the wrong idea there chperplt....didn't mean to . I have been told who you are and don't really remember you..maybe you were an fo most of the time that I was around. MD and JA are still crashing the same unit until the end of the month. JA will be ORF based, so she's moving down there. MD is actually living with me after the end of the month with a few other folks you probably wouldn't know, so I won't bother with the details, but, I'll let 'em know you said Hey!!

av8n4life

Thanks for the clarification.

If you guys every get out to Vegas for some fun in the sun, let me know. I have a big house and you're all welcome to stay!

chperplt,

We get to Vegas all the time...at least once every other month, next trip planned for May24-27 If your gonna be around then, pm me with your # and we'll be in touch

One last word. I don't think it's right to group everyone in one catagory. Most people in the dispatch office do a good job. I have been at Colgan for several years left got furloughed after 9/11 then came back. I personally have to much to lose to do things illegal. I have a family if I lose my job because Colgan doesn't like how I do things I can go get another job if I do something illegal I lose my lively hood. It's just not worth it....

Hey spinner, were you in the July 2001 class?

CJC Disptachers have been good for the most part.

Tony

You were (are) Colgan Maineline... I was part of the express division. Things worked a little differently for us.

Congratulations on the new gig. Are you going to be a Air ops safety inspector?

English,

No I was originally here in 1999 left for a year for where the real money is got furloughed and came back for the January 2002 class...
