well, $38 is a bit steep alright for the application fee. but i imagine well start seeing that sort of fee before too long at many other places. I di dit. im not happy about spending $38 but i did it and went through tthe process.....ill tell you this

if youre not serious about going to colgan, dont do it. its bothersom and time consuming. i spent about 40 minutes or so answering the questions and filling in all the blanks about who i am and where i worked and when it was and what times i have of what kind. if you dont already have that information handy, it will tke you much longer. so if you dont want to hassle about it. then forget it....but it means a job sometime in the future perhaps so i gladly went through the pain.

they asked about my times...i was off the selection list..they must be shooting low...but they did ask later on, so i just hope they like what i had to put on there, flying withdrawl is a bad thing..*shake shake* its like going without coffee *shake shake* hope to get wings again soon. :(

I am also interested in sending this app into Colgan but I have heard that are not hiring for the time being. If however they are hiring now I will go ahead and send it in. Any information? Chperpilot?
;)

archerB,

We (Colgan) are not currently hiring into the Beech. I don't know about the Saab. If we begin to hire again, I'm sure you can find out on this website. Good Luck!

thanks....

thanks...i need something soon. im not sure im really able to wait 6 months for someone to call. im hoping to find something airline or other...most likely other in this climate...that answers my questions "why yes, we are in fact looking for a first officer/pilot/captain"....

a guy can dream cant he?
any help send it my way...anyone can PM me with anything....well almost anything.

whats wrong with the job you have now, If you don't mind me asking. I guess you fly for AirNow. PIC EMB-110 time is good. Why jump to the rt seat of the 1900. If you want 121 time try Chit Taco or Comair, you'll get rt seat jet with the opportunity to move left in 2.5 to 3 years.

But them again, you go right seat 1900 with the opportunity to move left seat in 6 months to a year, that Airtran/Southwest/Frontier/Alaska job comes a lot quicker..

I agree. Turbine PIC is everything. Multi - even better. Some companies look more at jet time (PIC and TT) than others, but again PIC PIC PIC.

People are stupid! The $38 dollar fee, if you look real close was from 2003! Not 2005. I thought part of being a pilot was ATTENTION TO DETAIL!

If you're not serious about doing something, don't do it? Is that the jist of your post? Man, that is great stuff. Hold on, let me get a pencil, nay a pen and jot that down. You need to set up seminars or something, because you are on fire man, on fire I tell you. I'm only left wondering who will get your $38.

Colgan is hiring for the Saab right now. I interviewed this past friday. Didn't score high enough on the sim ride for the saab. I think I scored a 27, but 30 or above gets you the saab. Qualified for the beech which they are not hiring for.

You paid $38? Why??? it's free. You can file as many apps as you want at airapps, you just have to do them under a different e-mail address and start from srcatch. If this was your first application, then it should have been for free. You only have to pay if you want to apply for multiple airlines under the same e-mail address.

Hello people........... the original post was dated 3/2003. Doesnt anyone ever look at the post dates. Colgan isnt charging $38 for applications.

READ THE FRIGGIN QUESTION/POST!

When I worked at Colgan people were paying $20000 bucks to work there. Let me tell you that those people had a definate case of buyers remorse. I promise you that you will have the same with the $38 dollars. Colgan is without a doubt the worst airline, if you can actually call it that, in this country. Heck, probably world. To each his own, but I would suggest MESA before I went to Colgan. The only good thing about Colgan is the crews, but hey adversity builds character.

I work for cold one and I'm pretty sure they are hirin......I really don't think they are gonna stop hirin for a while but who knows...... We are still short handed.... Attrision is high. Is that how you spell it. They don't pay me to spell. People leave for rat jets and others just don't want to put up with there crap, others upgrade and eventually leave for big wig airlines. Been in company for 4 months and already have sweet seniority and never had reserve with the base I want, so think about it....

outtahere why so negative? They are a great company. We fly a lot and will move to left seat fast! Its all about PIC time if you have the goal of moving up to a major. Did you fly for Colgan? O you fly a jet!!!! Woooo. Say when will you upgrade to the left seat of your RJ? hahaahahha

Prop2Jet,

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you really need to keep your trap shut unless you know who it is you're talking to.

Some of us spent many years at Colgan and we know all about the company. A great company Colgan will NEVER be. I pray every day they don't kill anyone else because of their negligence.

Yes, he flew for Colgan. What you don't see in his profile because he's not trying to impress you (you know, all ratings except for ATP) is a 757/767 type rating. You joke about upgrading to the left seat of an RJ. You think that working at Colgan is your direct connection to a Major?? Think again buddy!

I'm glad you're enjoying your first airline and I'm sure you have a woodie 24/7. Enjoy it while it lasts and try to keep your mouth shut and learn something from those who have been there before you.

Leaving Colgan before upgrade and a grand and half of PIC 121 time sounds like a great idea!! Everyone knows how fast upgrade in an RJ is, especially with flowback and J4J. And they are such cost effective aircraft. Didn't they just double the production of CRJ's?

Don't fool yourselves, Most of the folks leaving Colgan are moving on to fly Airbus and Boeing products. The only ones going to RJ's left because they were afraid they could not pass a type ride.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with working at Colgan. If you're careful you can leave without a violation.

I don't think you're correct when you say that most leave for Airbus or Boeing products. If I had to guess, I would say less than 20% leave to fly anything bigger than 70 seats.

Also, you must never have been with Colgan. No one fails a check ride there... Not even a type ride. Unless of course the FAA is observing the ride, then everyone fails.

Prop,

Not trying to bash at all.. Just trying to tell it how it is.

I remember when I first got there and how happy I was. Just keep your eyes open and don't do anything that little voice in your head says hmmm about.

As a matter of fact I did work for Colgan, was never violated and I flew both aircraft. I would say that at least 75% are moving on to more than 125 seat or larger.

I do see what u mean about keeping my eyes open. I fly by the book, and not like some cowboys. I have not ran into the feds yet, but we write everything up , even torn carpet! Thanks for the advice... Your right, I should not bash RJ guy's decisions, whatever makes that person happy is the right choice for them. I apologize.
Cheers

You think 75%??

I spent 3+ years there and left 2 years ago.. Maybe the real number is somewhere in the middle...

Most that have left Colgan have gone to Air Tran (7 or 8), a few to North American (3, 1 is no longer there), one to Casino Express, 2 to Continental, 1 to JetBlue but he was furloughed US Air...

Out of the 150-180 that were there when I left in 03, there are over 80 still at Colgan. Most that left went to CHQ, CMR, and TSA.
