Thinking about Coex since I may be without a job shortly. What does the hiring look like for the next couple of years? How long is it to upgrade and the time frame to move to the left seat? Which base is the the most senior and least senior? Number of pilots? Any good rumors!
thanks

Hard to tell for upgrades. There could be some newhires from the beginning of 2004 upgrade this year if everything goes smoothly. CLE is most senior, EWR is junior. Currently about 2500 pilots on property. Hiring 64 a month and upgrading 64 captains a month.

Boy if you want rumors this is the place to be.
Some of the hot ones. I will start with the more reliable rumors and go down.

600-750 new hires this year.

anywhere from 270 (flowbacks from CAL that HAVE to leave) to 600 (flowsbacks, thru, and pref letters- pilots that can leave) pilots leaving the top of the seniority list JUST to go to CAL.

20ish new airplanes this year- but that is the last of our firm orders.(275)

I heard growth of 100 lines in IAH this summer.

Rumors from newhires is total of 3000 pilots on property. Unknown time frame.

Increase in lines out of LAX

LESS RELIABLE RUMORS

New bases

EMB 170-190s

Turbo-props coming back

BLAH BLAH BLAH

Or things could come to a crashing halt.

-Hiring is in full swing for the next 6 months. Hundreds to be hired.
-Upgrade around 3-4 years. Changes monthly though.
-IAH, EWR, then CLE
-Approx 2500
-Nothing worth mentioning

Here are some actual facts regarding upgrade from our perm bid results released yesterday.

Most junior EWR CA - hired 2/5/01.
Most junior IAH CA - hired 10/2/00.
Most junior CLE CA - hired 8/21/00.

The most junior of the new upgrades will be in training no later than July 1st of this year.

So the upgrade time would appear to be four years, but the thing to remember is we hired nobody from 9/2001 to 2/2004. Numbers-wise, there isn't a huge gap between the most junior EWR CA and the most senior 2/2004 new hire (275 folks to be exact, which is about 10% of our seniority list).

Question for Coex guys

A friend of mine said that coex was having trouble finding FOs with the time to upgrade to Captain so they were having to upgrade new hires if they had the hours. Seems a little far-fetched to me but is there any truth to this? If so, what are the hours reguired to upgrade there?

Your friend is wrong.

That's funny, an FO, flying at the company since 2/01, doesn't have 1500 hours. I wish I flew that little.

Well I thought it seemed unlikely so I guess I was right. Maybe he got Expressjet and Pinnacle mixed up?
