On my recent AA flight, while the plane was still boarding, I asked the flight attendant if I could go up to the front to take a pic of the office. She told me no, that it was against FAA regs. I then told her that ATA, Delta, and Jetblue had allowed me to do the same on their flights. Shen then got confused, mumbled, and started talking to someone else. I just went back to my seat.

Was she confusing FAA regs with a company Reg at AA that I'm not aware of?

Trying to tell a FA that they're wrong when they're not going let you see the cockpit will either get your dinner spit in or maybe even get you pulled off the plane if you continued to argue. If you ask and they say no, just let it be. They don't want you up there. Maybe it's company policy.

There is no FAA regulation prohibiting taking a picture. However, you should be able to understand the concern some people might have.

Cockpit posters are available commercially from places such as Sporty's. You can also obtain most cockpit posters on ebay. These are the full sized cockpit posters used for training from institutions such as Flight Safety and Simuflight. The price is generally minimal.

If you make a request and get a denial, a good policy is to politely say thank you and move on. Don't argue or pursue the point; the decision has been made and folks have been pulled off airplanes for less. I always think of Adam Sandler in Anger management; silly, but it happens. I've seen it jumpseating...crew who don't know the regulations, who profess something utterly ridiculous...but I'm not about to argue the point. It's their show, not mine. All you can do is make your request, and leave it at that.

Next time just say you want to greet the flight crew, don't mention pictures. When you get up front ask the Captain, after all it is his/her ship, not the FA's.

Obviously this dude is not looking to buy some Sporty's poster.... Just wanting to take some pics of his own for free. He also doesn't need you to be Ms. Manners and tell him to "politely" do anything.

I never have issues with AA. The pilots always ask if I want to take pictures and chill for a few before the flight. Same with ASA. Ive only run into really nice folks at both airlines this year. Maybe try telling them you are a student/pvt pilot, I got nothing but congrats from all crews when i flew recently when I told them I just soloed.

Not against AA policy at all. One of my g/f's is a F/A at AA, pm me and I would be more than happy to send you a picture of a AA 75 at the gate as long as you don't mind two f/a's in the seats.

Hehe, thanks for the offer, but I already have a bunch. I just like to get one every flight, sort of a tradition, I wasn't gonna argue with her about it though. She's paid to save our asses helping us outta the plane if something happens, so I'm not gonna give her a hard time.

You can be assured that you will run across those f/a's at AA, unfortunate because there is nothing "illegal" about it and the majority of the stews will be more than happy to let you up front and take the pics. AA has more than a few "senior" fa's that should have retired 15 years ago and they aren't the friendliest in the world.

Nov.19th some "young" gal's return to the F/A ranks at AA so keep the faith.
