There seems to be a lot of cool-aid drinkers out there who think their airline is better than others. But the truth of the matter is, most of us, when we had 1000 hrs tt and 100 multi would have taken the first job offered to us. After viewing the Skywest to ASE thread it seems that most Skywest pilots, most of which have never been into ASE, think they are more than capable enough to safely do ASE, while AWAC pilots who have been doing ASE for a long time think a disaster is about to happen. Just wanted to see which group of pilots protrays to others the most that their sh*t doesn't stink.

ASE...No ASE

Big RJ...little RJ

who cares?

How can ANY regional pilot be cocky? - (check the paychecks fellas)

cocky?....wtf?...I'd be goddam embarassed!!!!

What a stupid thread.
I am about to become a l regional pilot, and in no world I will become a cocky one. I am there to learn my new job, flying a passenger airplane. I am sure there are cocky guys outhere, but most of the folks are nice guys...don't exagerate

Just remember, they didn't put you in the RJ because you were a better pilot than the guy who flies the turboprop. They put you in a jet because that's the opening they had when they got to you. Remember that!

:D

When I flew the Brasilia, I used to tell my jet pilot friends that I didn't get the Brasilia because the company didn't think I couldn't fly the jet. They got the jet because the company didn't think they could fly the Brasilia. :D

By far ExpressJetters---- "Where a real airline not a regional"
Get real

OTAY!

ASE was a special training event at FlightSafety - glad I took the time to get it in my sessions. There are regional airlines that fly in there , maybe SkyWest? Great Lakes? Maybe even Mesa? Pilots thinking they can do it has nothing to do with being a regional airline right seater, it has to do with having never been in there before. Throw in some weather with the real thing and most become very humbled very quickly - or becoming a smoking crater in the ground. Time to break out the marshmellows!

I'd have to say that no particular regional has any more cocky pilots than another - it's all about a) where did they do their training? and b) how long have they been on the line?

I don't think any of us have much room to question the mountain flying skills or experience of a group like SKYW. It's not freakin brain surgery anyway, even at ASE.

I'll bite...I should be embarrassed? Should a CFR135 charter pilot flying right seat in a KA200 or LR25 making $18,000/year living 24/7 on a pager be embarrassed?

High horse much?

I've been wondering about this for some time, and BAM!! here the thread is!! Well, I have to say it is the QX crj guys down in DEN. These guys walk around that terminal like their sh!t don't stink!! I'm the guy that is always exchanging a greeting with a fellow pilot. I'll give the nod to these guys or say hello, maybe try to make eye contact to say something, and what do you get in return?? A big fat nothing, most of the time they won't even look at you, let alone exchange a greeting!! What an arrogant group!! I guess I shouldn't say that about all of them, I've met 2 of them that where pleasent and would speak, but the other 95% seem to be stuck on themselves. I've asked a couple of other pilots I know at other outfits, and they seem to notice the same thing.

I've been out in PDX a lot, and I know those guys out west are pretty good, I've hitched a ride a lot and think they are pretty nice, but that group in DEN seem to be in their own little world!!!

ExpressJet, a major airline with international destinations, has the best pilots and delivers the best product IN THE WORLD.

Seriously, there is nothing better than hearing an ExpressJet newhire in a spanking new uniform with 1000TT utter the phrases "major airline" and "international destinations". You never hear them say "twenty-two dollars an hour."

I dont know who you guys talk to but for the most part everyone i have been around while working here is down to earth. Do i personallly think we are better than some other regionals? Yes i do, but we are still a regional we just have better work rules than most. Every airline has its tool bags but thats just the nature of the game. Carry on

With proper training and practice most competent pilots will be OK with ASE. While following the procedures will help keep you from smacking granite the wind and weather change quickly. It can get busy. It's not that flying in there is hard, it's just the consequences of minor mistakes are much greater. Add up a fast airplane, inexperienced (at ASE) flight crew, mountains and a high altitude airport and you have a recipe for disaster. Proper training is the answer.

What a silly thread... Everyone knows that Dash 8 drivers in the Northeast are the best pilots in the world! Sheesh!

Really... Folks would do well to forget trying to argue who is the best pilot group. Try instead to make YOURSELF the best pilot YOU can be.

Except us Dash 8 guys. We kick ass.

Hey Megadeth,

I hope you "wake up dead".

Your not KIND.:D Maybe just not my kind.

What happened to Marty and Elefson? Peace sells and Rust in Peace are some of the best thrash metal records ever recorded. I just can't get my ears around the Chris Poland solos on Peace sells...a little too milktoast if you ask me.

Thread hijacked.

And no I don't take offense to your XJT bashing..I just don't care.

how can a regional pilot be cocky when store managers at McDonalds make more than 50% (in some cases more) than the entire seniority list at all regionals? Ask a plumber, or a garbage man how much he or she makes...that will humble all of us...even guys at majors too.

But you're missing the point, they get to fly a JET! That makes up for the crappy pay!

I'm always amazed at how many new regional guys say, "I was hired DIRECTLY to the jet." Some people just don't get it, do they?

What's so hard about flying into ASE?, just because its in a valley, at a high alt, frequent bad weather, strong and varible winds, relatively short runway for a Crj/ERJ, and you have to track a localizer back-course outbound if you have to go missed. Sure throw a 1700 hr CA, who looked at picture, with a 500hr(maybe) FO, into that place. C'mon what could go wrong? I wouldn't trust a 22 y/o FO to drive a car around ASE.
