I saw this too and just had to laugh. I am suprised they didn't fly it off the end and into the trees.

How did CNN already get CVR and FDR data?? I thought that was "safety data" that was only for NTSB use and could not be used in court, let alone the court of public opinion.

What really pisses me off is that the news organizations lick their chops for stuff like this. You could tell when the A320 had its nose gear problems and they got their supper zoom cams out. They want their money shot, I bet they were all in their studio just rooting for something to go wrong.

Although it was funny to watch, it did the job that they wanted it to do. Explain in LAYMANS TERMS to the public, non pilot community what the problem may have been and what it looked like to the pilots. While I do think it was rediqulous to call it "special software" it did the job that they wanted it to do. You cant blame then for that.

On a side note, I was curious when I saw the story start to see this special software. So I sat glued through commercials to see it. When I saw the "select aircraft" page from MSFS I laughed. um....I mean, I think thats what it looks like...not that I have ever seen it!!

The libs were all over FoxNews with their coverages, but now their precious CNN (Clinton News Network) and silence...hmmmmm

Oh...now thats funny. That is sure some special software.

Except that there was light rain falling, and we all know how wonderful the RJ's wipers are. I would imagine that rolling down a runway with no edge lights at 6am with light rain would have looked like a black hole. I know that's what LYH looked like at 6am Friday, and all the airport lights were on. They probably couldn't see the runway remaining signs, simply because the landing lights don't illuminate that far out (assuming they are not lit up on that runway). I would think that the first sign they had that something was really wrong was when they saw the touchdown markings are the far end go by, and then it's either try to get it to fly or run off the end at 140kts, which would probably have had the same effect.

Looking at this picture below, there does not seem to be any touchdown zone markings, unfortunately.

News Media are idiots.

One of my old bosses once back in like 78 or 79 lost an engine in a c150. Not a huge deal, put it down in a field and called the authorities. The media shows up and asked some questions. Just messing with the reporter he told them it was a Beech 18 with six passengers on board, no injuries. Later on he's at a bar pounding a few back with some friends and there on the news is the most respected journalist reporting while standing right in front of a C150. "A Beech 18 went down in a field on the outside of town, Six people on board no injuries". Also it would be worth mentioning that this took place about 15 miles from Oshkosh Wi. (EAA) The area gets the biggest aviation convention in the world and the news is still clueless.

On another note whenever a aircraft would need the trucks to roll for a problem the cameras would be set up before the fire trucks are even in position. When the A/C would land safely the look of disapointment on their faces was disgusting.

The only good reporting comes from Jon Stewart.

All the news networks here are becoming nothing but a version of Jerry Springer/ Maury. Sensationalized garbage that isn't worth watching. It's like they are trying to pass Al Jazeera (sp) for media most in need of obliteration.

The News media is a business. They are trying to sell their product and their product is sensationalism. Regardless of taste, they will sell and the public bites into it with their K9's...

It is difficult to explain on TV what happened to layman. Try sometime to explain baseball to someone who knows nothing about it and is interrupting with questions. I do not think they could say FlightSimulator because the CRJ is not a FS package. My son's FS package includes add on real time weather, the entire US route structure for commercial aircraft, and a host of add on aircraft.
All in all, not a bad way to try and explain how a professional crew could get so screwed up.

My girlfriend was asking me why runway length mattered. I was sorta stunned by the question, but you're right, we forget what laypeople know and don't know. Had to use an example from Back to the Future to explain it ... if they don't reach 88mph before they get to the clocktower ... I guess that's the teacher in me.

All in all it's a horrible way to reenact a crash none of us were there to see. I understand that it is difficult to explain aviation accidents to people who have little to no understanding of aviation, however, what I believe the media is doing borders on the criminal. You are selling fear, sir. You sell it anyway you can get it, and you don't need the facts to do it. Fortunately, aviators know a thing or two about what goes on in the aviation world, so your antics and fabrications are not appreciated. In fact, I laugh at you most of the time. As bad as the media has portrayed this tragedy, it only leaves me to wonder about the National reporting I don't know anything about. So, in essence, thank you. Now when the news comes on, I turn you off. Good day,

Trojan

Taste Less??

I prefer Great Filling.

now, tasteless, on the other hand... well that's a different question all together (or altogether) :)

exactly

drama sells, and the media will do anything for ratings which equals more ad revenue which equals more $$$$$$$$$

ironic, though, because that isnt part of the liberal ideology at all

CNN problably got someone who did hear or transcribe the cockpit voice recorder to give information.
The attempt to show what happened here would not work well for other accidents. Here in Florida, the co-pilots mother wants to blame the controller. Others on this board have brought up other aspects from the lack of pay for regional pilots to scheduling, rest, and the usual assortment of complaints that come from a life as a pilot.
People like me have a choice. Do I go on TV and try and get some sense of balance on the reporting, or, do we just leave it to those who know nothing about the subject. I watched the cut from above and found nothing wrong. They did not proceed into the crash and focused on what they thought was the problem, they were not alined correctly. There will always be the public scrutiney and interest in aircraft crashes. We can all work to see the public gets some understanding of the issues.

get a daily e-mail from Smartbrief.com (Air Transport Assoc.) and JetBlue which briefly describes aviation related articles from across the country. That’s how I got wind of the flt sim thing. All I watch on TV is my TIVOed episodes of Cops, when I want news, I watch the WX channel. Sorry, but NO, Im not.
