Wondering if anyone else watched the CNN report Sunday night about Airline Maintenance outsourcing. They claim it is a safety hazard. One mechanic which was unidentified said the trend shows that it is time for an major airline to crash because of poor maintenance. They said 1/3 to 3/4 of airframe maintenance is outsourced. On the otherhand, American Airlines claim that 80% of their maintenance is inhouse. Now the ATA says that this idea is just coming from the mechanics union because they are losing jobs to outsourcing companies. It was fun to see how deep the media went to investigate this report.

Left me with questions

I saw the CNN report I felt that I could have done more fact finding and i'm a pilot not an investigative reporter.... oh well. I can see the side of both parties airlines and mechanics I just hope that safety remains paramount. We all worked to hard to get where were at to be threatened by management to take an unsafe airplane due to crappy maintenance outsorced or not.

where was the maintenance outsourced to? please don't tell me it was offshore. if it was outsourced, i hope the workers/work remained on these shores.
