Commuting is a choice for these employees - not a requirement of the employer. Regardless of where you live, you are expected to show up to work well rested, clean, crisp, professional, ready for duty, etc. end of story.

Seems as though one has to be able to afford to work for a living in this industry as opposed to the other way around these days.
Yes it is a choice, until you're displaced to JFK and your paycheck can't afford you a shanty to live in down by the river, in NYC.

So you want to put a base in a high cost of living/tax area, then the company should be responsible for cover the cost of living difference.
They're making a couple extra bucks by having us operate out of there, then can spread the wealth so their pilots can eat more than one meal a day, and sleep in a bed. Not on the recliner in the crewroom.

This has got to be one of the most ignorant posts I've read on this site. That says a lot.

Sounds like milky is the Vice president chief managing director and OIC of regulatory compliance for stapler acquisition, highlighter usage, and knob polishing located in some office building housing the airline’s HDQ! I wonder how much his bonus was for meeting the knob polishing goal?

Back to the thread title of 'dirty little secret'.... it is not just airlines.... it is our entire economy....

Maybe this time it won't die on the vine.....

Well, thanks to the USA Today for not letting it die. Todays' editorial page has a pretty well written view on the subject, coinciding with the FAA summit today on all of the issues the NTSB brought up.

Peace.
