We charge 20.00 for a checked bag, with 30 min. turns.........It can be done....Folks its time to realize its a different world right now, its survival time, do what you have to or pay the fiddler. It is what it is, I DON'T LIKE IT, but something has to be done, and yes others will follow.

I think the 1st checked bagg should be a freebie. That is a little rediculous to charge someone for traveling with luggage. maybe they should have an option of a carry on OR checked bag. Most of those carry on bags should be down below as it is, this will only make it worse. I would think it may hurt on time performace as well...now your going to have everybody looking for an overhead bin. Thats almost like a car salesman saying to you you can have the car for this price but the first wheel is x amount and each additional wheel is xx amount. Seems like a desperate attempt by management to make money.

AA Gold level and above plus some other full-fare flights and international flights are exempt. if you are a loyal AA flyer you are not penalized. For the internet shopper with no brand loyalty and simply looking for rock bottom prices, welcome to your new reality.

Cheers- Rum (Gold level AA flyer)

Eevn better if they charged people who wanted to bring their rollerboard into the cabin.

AA is joining Amer Eagle

In a race for the bottom! I'm a Netjetter and we pay high ass prices already with no brand loyalty for last minute one way fares. Sure you needs to survive, but charge me 15 extra for a ticket rather than scam me at the airport.

I guess the sun has set on customer service at the airlines.

Get me a rental, I'd rather drive!

Soooo...what about the carry on that has to be checked at the gate due to the bins being full? How do they get the $15 out of that guy?

And, if one does pay $15 for a checked bag....does that mean that the baggage service will be better? I mean, is the customer now paying for his bags to get misplaced?

Sounds like a good idea to me. The rotten cheapskates that refuse to pay a reasonable fare will now have to pay for their bags instead. The airlines have to get the revenue somehow.

Bag Fee

Oh I don't know...how about these d@mn execs quit giving themselves fat bonuses when their companies can't make any money! What the he!l? I mean come on! I'm giving myself a fat bonus for running a non-profitable company instead of re-investing that money into said company to figure out better efficiencies. "We can't afford to give our pax a small bag of peanuts because the top 14 execs have to get our bonuses this year!" Brand loyalty? The only reason one is loyal is generally because they live at a hub and are stuck. It was these idiots who decided to compete with WN...when they never had a chance to begin with. All of the majors have lost their direction because of money-hungry penny pinchers (to hel! with the pax, more money for us!) and no one with vision. Where are the great "airline men and women" of 30+ years ago?

Maybe we should wait and see what happens rather than jerk our knees.

checking a bag is a service which has a cost. European's charge for checked bags. They also have a 4 dollar plus gas tax compared to our .26 cents. And guess what they don't waste gas in their Yukons or F-150s and because of that their airlines are all profitable. Just think if we put a gas tax out there to change peoples behaviors, the demand for gas would plummet in 10 years and the airlines would be fat on cash.

You can't possibly be that slow.
For the record, demand for oil is DOWN in the US. In india and china, the government SUBSIDIZES fuel at the pump. So lets tax the living hell out of gas here so the Chinese and Indians can enjoy an even larger cost advantage. That's what we need, even MORE economic growth over there at our expense. What a mo...

Oh, and jet fuel costs just as much in europe as it does here. As a matter of fact, it costs LH MORE to fly across the pond than it does united or amr. Maybe they make a profit because there aren't 15 f'n german airlines flying from Frankfurt to the US...

About time someone starting cutting capacity. The sooner we get 10's of thousands of seats out of the sky, the sooner people that HAVE to fly will pony up the bucks to get those seats.

Supply and demand baby!

Uhhhgg...

Lets get with the program!

As a Netjetter, you should know this, if you are a "AA" Gold, Platinum, Unrestricted fare or international you will not be charged. I think your "high ass" price will qualify. If not then you should have enough frequent flier points to help out.
